Richard's Story

ver 1.02 Story of my life history - sort of in a rambling funny kind of manner NHHS School I was never active socially at NHHS though I was happy and it was a good part of my life. Two reasons for not a participating in high school life were, I was very shy and I was a new person entering in the 11th grade with out friends, so it was rather hard for me to make friends and in fact I did not make friends. My senior year I was working full time and going to school only in the mornings not staying for lunch most days, I did go to the prom for a few hours. I did want to have friends even having a big crush I will never forget, however I never had the courage to talk to her much less attempt to hang around her. College I went to Valley Junior College and received a worthless AA degree in what I have thankfully forgotten though it defiantly was not in spelling; SFVSC, BA in History and Geography; though now it is gone uppity calling its self a University Cal Poly SLO, BS in Pomology/Viticulture; UC Davis, MS in Agriculture & teaching credential Family life I married in the 70¿s and divorced with child custody a decade and half later. I have two grown children, a 27 year old son 'Ben' in collage on the GI bill, he received a medical discharge and is 80% disabled though he can function OK. I have a 25 year daughter Sarah. She has finished her masters of Library of Science from UCLA, then married and now is spending a year in Israel returning in June 08 to the LA area. Both have graduated now, Ben is looking for work and Sarah is starting a family. At least half of them at successful at their current endeavors. Worklife After Cal Poly I lived in the Sonoma wine growing area developing vineyards and orchards. Started and sold an exotic mushroom growing business in the 80's, then became an Agricultural teacher moving to Washington State in the early 90's to live in the rainforest. Coming back to Northern California I became a Court School teacher teaching children locked down 24/7 in CYA. After that I joined a retreat in Lake County until 05. I worked there for many years though that is not considered work by me or many of the other members. My pets were the wild animals around my cabin [tent], the retreat pays little though it is a wonderful place to live. Living in retreat is being very close to the land with few modern convinces except an internet line. Weird modern American mix of high teck and basic survival that only exists in N Cal. We did have plumbing [locally available but not in my tent several hundred yards] and a great community kitchen [1\4 mile away] one just for the residents all the other facilities are used by guests, library, theater, coffee shop, two restaurants, two hotels and a dormitory along with four conference centers for group retreats, and daily events for the guests and residents. And of course a large swimming pool two warm pools a hot pool [117 F, yes you read that correct] and cold plunge [not more than 40 F] along with a sauna and steam cave, water falls, streams and over 2,200 protected acres to roam around on. My little corner of the universe is a loving part of the world and is very sheltered from the real world and I like it that way, I have seen and experienced enough of the world to appreciate this setting, though I will move away soon it but it has been very good for me to be here for a while. I moved to Perth Western Australia in 2005 after living in Nepal for a while. This is the most remote capital city on the planet. I bicycle 40-60k every day along the Swan river enjoying the crystal clear air on a bike path with out motor cars. There are black swans living on the river. The wild life in OZ is very different from America, most examples of wildlife around here can be found dead on the roads. Of course one must remember in Australia they eat their national animal symbols both its mammal and bird national symbols are served as brush tucker at finer establishments in a verity of unique and charde ways, course they drive on the wrong side of the road, organic anything is just a vague concept and they speak Australian not English, plus they think that China is their friend. This is really a strange country but nice in a unique way. I have changed my profession again and currently am a shamanic teacher and healer. I studied most of 03-05 under shamans in America and then went to Nepal for another 6 months of study under both Tibetan and Nepalese shamans. I have been journeying since the early 90's and decided to make it a full time profession. I am working for the Australasian Institute for Shamani...Expand for more
c Studies both as a teacher and healer. I may move to the eastern side of Australia next year as it is cooler. April 2008 It is fall here down under, at one time recently because of traveling and living in both countries for several months at a time I had 4 summers in a row, I am thankful for this winter even if it is not nearly as cold here as in Northern California. I truly like winter and get a kick out of the locals who think it is cold as I am cruising around in shorts and a 't' shirt. And, no, my spelling has not improved nor am I fussed about it. Still in Perth enjoying the great clean climate, cycling 30-50k per day, sailing every week and snorkeling on the local reefs. I went swimming with the whale sharks last December. Australia is a good country to live in, though I have not found any friends here yet. I started sailing and am looking for a sail boat that I can live on while sailing around the world. Something around 40-55 feet in a ketch rigging so I can sail the North West Passage now that it is open thanks to GB and his crowd of environmentalists. Plus, as the oceans rise I will not have to relocate. Sorry about the sick attempt at humor on my part. Still looking for property in Tasmania though I think I will put that off for a while as likely the world economy will drop as the energy shortages work their way on and through the economy over the next few years. Last year I sold all my California property but am in a quandary as to what to do with the money except to by the yacht. Tas is even more primitive socially and environmentally than Western Australia, the best way to view the native wild life is via the numerous road kills all over the place. The locals seem to be somewhat inbred ex prisoners who revel in their complete lack of understanding of what is happening in the world. But there are pockets of civilization that I have found south of Hobart, which is just about as far away from anyplace as is humanly possible while still remaining on the planet and sort of speaking English and it is kind of a nice planet for the most part. I am seriously looking to move into one of those areas as I can sail from them to Hobart for supplies and it is a cooler climate. Not much else at the moment, oh, gas [petrol here] is $4.80/ gallon so do not gripe. Remember that these will be considered the good old days not to far in the future. Oh, I have been cycling back to the states every year or so for several months and plan on going again in 2012. So what is happening in the fall of 09 in the Southern Hemisphere [spring for all of you folks up in the north]? April 2009, Hmm, the great ressesion down here is just starting to happen in what is called the Cinderella City because it has so many millionaire's at least for the moment but not likely for long. I decided to go back to university and become an RN. I need to do something because I have been un-retired so to speak and do not think I will ever be able to retire again thanks to some bankers and stock brokers who decided that they needed my money more than I did enabled by republican neocons and bush in general. I have enrolled in a Master of Science in Nursing program at the University of Western Australia [a surprisingly good school with an international reputation for excellence, no that is not some local saying it but an ex Californian] and will in 2 years have my MS in medicine and a RN certification that is good in most countries. I might come back to the US depending or GB. Tthe interesting point I have to make is that some countries are still helping people get educated and Australia is one of them. I [not even a citizen yet that will happen in Dec 09] will receive about half of my fees paid by the government just to take the Masters and pass. Never in my life have I received any assistance in education, strange to live so long that everything happens to one eth? also I will be getting a living allowance from the government, plus free health care [yes it is superior to or equal to the best in USA] for everyone, I guess if you tax the wealthy and do not give it away to banks there is a lot a government can do for the people. Not much else is happening around here, it is real quite here and I like that. Oh, we rejected daylight savings time again for the 4th time. With long days it really is not necessary and with the Ozone hole no one in their right mind goes out in the middle of the day anyway. Other than that not much happens here but we do get all the movies, news, and techno junk that is generally available to the modern fast world in the North. Namaste, RBH
