More about Laura:"I am an artist and I own and manage a renovated 12,000 square foot mixed-use building in the revitalized Theater District of downtown Tacoma. My family restored and remodeled the 100-year-old Rowland building to bring back its sweeping ceilings, original brick and beautiful Doug Fir floors. My property was added to the local historic register after my presentation before the city's Historic Landmarks Commission. The Rowland building also houses three upscale condominiums for my Vacation/Corporate Rental business, and a bar and grill. My original artwork is featured in the beautifully appointed residential units that my family built. The condos can be seen on Vacation Rental by Owner - VRBO.com (#96674 and #373100). I have a wonderful 25-year-old daughter, Whitney, who is in her last year of medical school at the University of Washington, which is one of the top ten medical schools in the United States. whom she is as a person - a loving, giving, and principled young woman. I am proud of my accomplishments but my greatest experience and privilege, hands-down, is being my daughter's mother. My husband, Marty Fehl, is also an artist and we live in my building where we have a gallery, our studios, and a frame shop. I have a BA in journalism, a BS in conservation of natural resources, and an AA in commercial art. In my younger years I worked as a newspaper reporter, editor, and a senior technical writer, and in 2005 I worked for a year as a tech writer for a local software company as the primary writer on a multi-million dollar Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) contract. The project - researching and demonstrating the use of mobile object computer technology for improved data communications in the next generation National Airspace System (NAS) - was done in response to 911 in an attempt to improve the safety of NAS. My artwork is included in national, international, private, and corporate collections of the Pierce County Peninsula Branch Library, State Farm Insurance, Topia Technology software development company, and John Madden, the colorful commentator for the National Football League. I have received several local art awards and my biographical profile is included in the (merit-based) 2002-2012 editions of Who’s Who in American Art, Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the World, and Who’s Who in Finance and Industry. (You don't pay to be in the publications; someone nominates you). My art has been shown in and represented by galleries in New York, North Carolina, and Seattle, WA.".
