Harlan's Story
I am from Fort Worth, Texas. After Southwest High School I attended Texas A&M (Engineering Technology) and Troy State (MS in Management). After graduating from Texas A&M, I retired from the Navy in 1994 as a Lt. Commander. Always being a techie eventually led me into the IT industry where I have been since. Since the Navy I have worked at Kent Datacom, Unisys, DB Computer Solutions, Town of Highland Park, Mindbank Consulting, City of Grand Prairie, and DFW Microsoft Training and Tutoring Associates. Plus miscellaneous other positions in the IT field.
Music Harlan likes includes Zac Brown Band, Rorey Carroll, Jennifer Brantley.
Wow! After I left Southwest High School I never looked back Which meant that I never attended a reunion. My brother attended some of my reunions but I did not. I guess I was too busy to traveling around the world and living in other places. I thought I would never return to the DFW area, but as my parents got older and needed help I found myself back here.
And now that we are all around 60 years old I can say where did the time go. And now I am beginning to look back. I have looked at some of the current pictures on Classmate and I recognize many more names than I do the faces. Some guys ...Expand for more
and girls look pretty good and then there is the rest of us. :) So I guess that I will start making up for the willful neglect that I have placed upon the area that I grew up in and start reaching out some.
Current interest are swimming, kayaking, geocaching, and hiking. I have wanted to hike the Appalachian trail however I hurt my leg this year and so I do not know if that will ever happen. My wife of 19 years is from South Korea and my girls are 15 and 16. Wow, 60 years old and trying to keep up with teenagers; they keep me thinking young and then my body reminds me of my true age. HaHa!!
I have lived in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Rhode Island, and Philippines. I have visited England, Spain, France, Italy, Israel, Egypt, Kenya, Antigua, Puerto Rico, Somalia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Guam, and Thailand. I have enjoyed everywhere that I have been. I was always restless; I could not imagine having lived a different life except to have lived in more places.Now I have been in Texas for 20 years. Yikes, where did the time go.
I currently work in the downtown area of Grand Prairie. If anyone is passing through let me know and maybe we can share some old stories.
