Harold's Story
Right after High School, I married a beautiful young lady, Patty Rimer, who moved to Stroud from Tulsa. That was in 1949, and we are still together. This wonderful union gave us four great children, Harold Jr, Bill, Patti, and Raye.
I spent the first four or five years of our marriage working in the oil field, since that was where the jobs were around Stroud. Then after a move to Odessa, Texas in 1956, I entered the law enforcement field, working four and a half years for the Odessa Police Department. Then we moved to New Mexico where I joined the New Mexico State Police in 1961. I retired with the rank of Captain, (District Commander), in Alamogordo, N.M. in 1986. I was then appointed as Parole Board Chairman for the NM Corrections Department, which required a move to Santa Fe. I served in that position for one year, resigned, and then was appointed Chief of Police in Portales, N.M. in August 1988. I served in that position until August 1993, and then returned to Santa Fe where I served as Head of the N.M. Public Safety Federal Grant Section office for two years. This entaile...Expand for more
d approving all Public Safety grant requests from all N.M. Police and Sheriff departments throughout the state. I then again Retired in January 1995, and since that time, the wife and I utilized our RV in Colorado and Arizona. We are still spending the winters in Yuma, Arizona. Our four children were all successful in their own right. Harold, Jr, retired from the FBI, Bill, our 2nd son, is a Financial Manager and Vice President, of a Stock Brokerage firm. Patti, our only daughter, is married to the Head of a Brokerage firm office in Irvine, California. Our youngest son Raye, recently retired in December 2007, as Deputy Police Chief of the Santa Fe, N.M. Police department. Patt and I have twelve beautiful grandchildren, and seven beautiful great-grandchildren, as of 2008. Sadly, I lost my beautiful wife on June 6, 2008 when she suffered a heart attack. We were together fifty nine years and six months, and believe me, it is very hard to live without her when we spent almost our entire lives together. I know she is with our Lord and no longer suffers any pain, but I miss her terribly.
