Harold's Story
I do not remember doing any school work my senior year so graduation from HHS can only be attributed to a desire on the part of the administration to see me go away. A stint at NOVA convinced me the administration was on to something. I then sold myself to the US Army and spent several years sitting in the door of a Huey. A year in Viet Nam with the 101st Airborne was part of that and was where I developed my personal motto 'Don't get out of the helicopter'. I successfully avoided any serious medals and came home to pick up where I had left off after high school. That was a mistake. One year I had 12 jobs. Coming to late in the 70s I decided cleaning up my act would be a good idea.
I met and married Lisa and we bought a house in Sterling which I started remodeling. That was in 1980 and at some point in the future I hope to have the house finished. That Lisa has put up with...Expand for more
me and that house is a testament to her saintlike qualities. We are now in the process of convincing our two children to move out. If I could convince the dogs to go with the kids my life would get a lot calmer.
I work as a production manager for a custom home builder in Northern Va. I never build the same house twice which is a challenge and a lot of fun. Homes I have built have won awards and been featured in magazines and on TV. I split my time between sitting at a computer and running around pointing and yelling. My job would be easier if I could remember all that stuff Senor Meyers tried to teach me.
Life is going a lot better than I have any right to expect. I will note a little arthritis, a bad back, an expanding waistline and a receding hairline. Those are just notes, not complaints. It would be unseemly to complain when my continued existence is such a surprise.
