Harold's Story

Life Who knew that two WWII vets knowing nothing of one another would, by taking jobs on the Rte 128 "Hi-Tech" highway in MA and choosing to live in Littleton, bring together two of their kids at Littleton High School. I didn't know that the "new" girl I asked to dance with at the Sophomore Dance in March '67 would be my wife. Or that, through various circumstances, I wouldn't propose until the weekend of our 20th reunion. (Yeah, okay, so I wasn't the quickest on the uptake when I was young, but you guys from LHS already knew that.) But I'm glad all that happened!! I got hooked on science as a kid, especially on walks with my dad going fishing or just a hike. So I ended up getting a degree to teach high school science and did so for 15 years (earth science, physics and astronomy). While I was doing that I was recruited in 1986 to help develop, test and write a high school astronomy course through a project at Harvard--check out "Project STAR" at Amazon.com--and that led to a second career as science education researcher, curriculum developer, and project manager. It was a challenging, but very rewarding job, from which I retired in 2018. I've also been lucky enough to get back into te...Expand for more
aching through evening classes at my alma mater, Framingham State (I teach meteorology, which began as a hobby when I was 10.) My family traveled on camping trips when I was young and that gave me a real taste for travel. By the time I left LHS, I had set the goal of visiting all 50 states, which I achieved when I visited Alabama in 1997! I've also visited all but one Canadian province, China, Hong Kong (when it was still a British colony), Russia (when it was the USSR), Australia, and New Zealand (but only the North Island, have to go back to visit South Island). So now my goal is to visit all seven continents (three to go: Africa, Antarctica and South America). Having married later in life, I have no children, but Irene and I enjoy spoiling our grand nieces and grand nephews, most of whom live within an hour's drive. We live a pretty quiet life, enjoying our old Victorian house and collecting antiques to go with it. Our two cats keep us company when we're at home. We enjoy traveling and visiting with friends, with whom you can find us Friday evenings at the Bull Run. I joined Classmates.com to be able to check on who's around and make it easier for anyone who wants to get in touch.
