Harold's Story
I'm been living in Branchburg/Neshanic Station, Somerset Cty., NJ since 1987. Before that I lived in Hoboken, Jersey City, Montville, Parsippany, Succasunna, and Flemington, all in New Jersey.
I met my wife, Anne, while at Stevens Tech. We started dating in '75 and married in '81. I dropped out of Stevens at the end of '75. I went to work on the 3rd shift in Newark and later graduated from Jersey City State with a BA Math major/Econ minor summa cum laude '80 while working full time. Anne stayed at Stevens and graduated with a BS Math in '77.
We have 3 sons and a daughter, born from 1984 to 1996, and a granddaughter born in '11. Our oldest two boys were All-State Chrous, graduated from Immaculata High School and The College of New Jersey ( i.e. Trenton State ) and moved out of the house soon after college. The oldest was a Math major, is actuary with Prudential, makes Anime Music Videos, married in '08, and their daughter was born in '11. No. 2 son was a Computer Science major, has worked for the IEEE, Apple, the New York Times, and now Tumblr, and has done a lot of Taiko drumming and photography. They are both doing fine. The younger two are still working their way through school and living at home with us. They've all done marching band in high school.
I worked in the computer field from '76 to '08, from '83 to '97 as part of our own small consulting firm. Some of the places I've worked are : Mutual Benefit Life, Stevens Tech., ADP, Tool-Tronics, Rapidata, Key Financial Systems, AT&T ( at something like 25 differe...Expand for more
nt desks ), Alpo, Sealand, and Sharp Electronics. AT&T laid me off in '08 after I returned for diasability for my aortic dissection. Since then I've worked during the tax season doing tax returns for H&R Block.
So, these days I mostly do things around the house, like trading stocks, photography, genealogy research, copying video tapes to DVDs, scanning the family pictures, etc.
I suffered that aortic dissection in Jan. 17, '08, the day Bobby Fischer died. In addition, I had a complication called Compartment Syndrome which caused me to lose all the muscles in the front of my left calf. So, there was the one big surgery that repaired my aortic valve and replaced a big section of my aorta with dacron and then there was a bunch of smaller surgeries on my calf. I was in the CICU for almost 3 weeks and then a regular room until Feb. 14 when they moved me to a rehab center. I was at the rehab for 2 months and then on home care for another month before I went back to work in mid-May with a cane and a "boot". That day was when they gave me my layoff notice. My last day at AT&T was in mid-July and my last surgery on my calf was a week later. The bleeding stopped in Sept.
But I survived what John Ritter died from and maybe even because his death raised awareness of it. I'm not expected to live to 2018 ( the 10 year point ). So, I'm trying to have a good time with what time I have left.
You can find me/contact me on Facebook. I'm "Hal Wolverton" ( the younger one I think ) or "Harold Wolverton" ( one of the white ones ).
