Harold's Story
Harold (Rich) Stevenson is from Livingston, Montana...but was born in Crosby North Dakota so Mom could be close to her Mom at birthing. Harold's schools include Broadwater Elementry School & Lincoln JR High, Billings and Billings Senior High School... ...(graduated in the lower 20%, 1961). Why study when you can hunt and fish!? Harold later attended MSU Billings (BS Biology/math physics chemistry minor). He then was granted a graduate Fellowship by the Montana Cooperative Fisheries unit at MSU, Bozeman and earned a MS in fish & wildlife management, fisheries option. He completed a 3 year research project on the Tail-water Fishery of Big Horn River below Yellowtail Dam/Reservoir of Montana and Wyoming. Following graduation he worked as fisheries biologist for MTFW&P in Dillon and Bozeman then as fisheries Biologist in Park (and Sweet Grass) County primarily on the upper Yellowstone River and its tributaries. He later worked as Fisheries Biologist for the Shoshone National Forest Supervisors Office in Cody Wyoming. I left my fisheries career to try my hand at the arts, mostly visual art...with some success...but now I'm broke.... I also wrote and illustrated a column is cooperation with Mark Henckle of the Billings gazette, "The Flybox", published weekly in about 6 newspapers...fun but again starvation stuff. We also did full page features about once a month. I held a Montana outfitters License for about 10 years.
I married Marie Teslow, Bozeman (art teacher and artist). We reared 3 daughters: Collette, Principle Studies Supervisor at Bio-research, Bozeman, Dr. Rae Lee Stevenson, physician (providence Hospitals ...Expand for more
in Alaska) currently at Livingston's new Healthcare Hospital in Livingston, MT, family practice fellowship, OB, ER with surgical priviledges. Youngest is Kelly, teaching her 2nd year as visiting professor of ceramic arts at Berry College just North of Atlanta, GA.. Kelly attended Park HS, Livingston, Bozeman HS, MSU, Boz., U of M, Missoula and Georgia State University/Atlanta/art fellowship, MFA.
Both my family, the Stevenson's and Marie's family, the Teslows, homesteaded in the Judith Gap area of central Montana. I have wonderd if maybe we were related....My Grampa Stevenson was a handsome fellow....Yep!!!
I owned Taffy the Cocker spanial, Rex, Springer cross and Five Labrador retrievers...and a few lovable "mutts". We also whelped about 60 Labrador retriever pups...great fun! currently we have Labrador Breezy, pictured above... (so named as she was born in Livingston and loved to run), Jennifer the cat, "Ol blue eyes and One-eye.
Then there was "Pecker"...(so named by the girls as he pecked at everything) the magpie with a broken wing which we splinted with masking tape and staples. He did recover to fly again and remained a pet...hiding bugs around the house and yard for a rainy day. One day he came home with a mate. She as tame as he, almost. Pecker would play with our Labs...traffic would stop to watch.
My Dad was great he taught me how to hunt, shoot and fish and along with the elements the outdoor lifestyle. He was a knowledgeable amateur gunsmith, An expertise which he shared with his friends and relatives.
Unfortunately I've yet to become "rich"...except in name and lifestyle....which I appreciate!
