Harriet's Story
Harriet is from Hayesville, North Carolina. Harriet is single. Harriet's schools include Upper Darby High School. Harriet later attended CUSF (English Lit). Harriet works(ed) at Ill Repute, Ltd..
One of Harriet's favorite quotes is:"Latest one: Give people the opportunity to say 'Yes';
"If you can dream it, you can do it" (Kipling?)
I'll be back to add the rest when I have a couple of weeks . . .
on Faith: "Faith is . . . when you come to tne end of all that you know, and are about to plunge out into darkneww, Faith is . . . believing that there will be someone there to catch you -- or, you will be shown how to fly . . ." An old favorite by Rilke is one I've lost exact quote for but goes like this: "The Future flows into us, transforms itself in us . . . (then I get a brain fart and have to go get the little box, if I can find it) on which I pasted this years ago. ".
More about Harriet:"How much time do you have?
For starters, I have begun a whole new life here in the mountains of western NC. This is an area that I discovered, evacuating from New Orleans, just in front of Hurricane Katrina. I had moved there from Sonoma Co. in northern CA, to -- into a third marriage that proved disasterous. I finally had to drive off by myself the Sunday morning, an hour before mandatory evacuation and, since this man was not big on action, try and get us both a room for that night. Well, the story is complicated, suffice to say whiler he was busy creating his own drama/mess, I discovered Craigs List, found a posting for "genuine New Orleans refuigee' to work in the beautiful mountains . . for 3 months. . .. " and thus I ended up at the Highlands Inn, for 'Leaf Season. In the summer of 2008, having stayed with this man through a long. contuining battle with prostate cancer (he ultimately died this past March) , I finally saw' the reality for what it was. I cancelled credit cards of mine he'd been abusin...Expand for more
g and a week later, HE filed for divorce (thus sparing me the role of 'deserting wife'). The papers were served to me at work -- on my birthday! The non-profit division where I worked was being shut down. I took a deep breath and, having done my homework, drove back to WNC and bought a small piece of land upon which to put my 30' diameter yurt. Permit troubles, and I had to buy a camper and downsize the yurt order. It is still on pallets, but to finance all that needs to be done, and the cost of propane 3 times more than my monthly rent here, I moved into a small but very nice senior apt. three blocks from 'downtown', tiny Hayesville. I have never, now over the mid-60's age 'hump', never felt happier, more creattive or more 'myself.' I have met wonderful people, am surrounded by beautiful nature and creatively, I am blooming. My sense of humor is still outrageous and I laugh a good deal. I am ever fascinated by people and their lives, where they have been, are, and what else they wish for. A 'social worker' by instinct, I try to help others each step of the way, as others have done for me, whenever I can. If a good man comes along, fantastic -- but I don't plan to marry again (third time was NOT a charm; I had one, long good marriage and feel a fourth would be excessive :-) I am both social and solitary, in that I enjoy my own company (and have an active fantasy life). Since going north and out of the capital of fried foods, I have dropped 30 pounds w/o even trying and my oily skin of youth persisted enough toi hold back many facial creases. Most people assume I am years younger than my age -- now, 68 -- while this is amusing and, naturally, flattering, I enjoy enlightening them and waiting for the reaction. Every year we live is a victory, given all that can happen to a person (not to mention, a nation, planet, and so on) and intend to keep on growing and learning until my last breath.".
