Harry's Story
It was not long after graduation that I entered the U.S.N. Althpough I could never be a lifer, the Navy was a vital experience and service for my country is important to me.
God is good all the time. He used the difficulties in life to draw me to Him. I became a Christian in February of 1974, and while I was serving in the navy, my brother Jim was killed, which set me in a terrible tailspin for awhile. Some of the results of this time were a failed marriage and other extremely damaging scenarios.
But God still had plans for me. I met a wonderful lady upon my return to Christ. We have six children between us, and eight grand children.
After my stint in the navy, I worked as a roofer for a good while, but the grind day-by-day took its toll on back. I then sought work in maintenance in an effort to use skills that I that I had acquired through roofing. My back continued to degenerate,...Expand for more
and I asked my wife what she thought about me starting college.
At forty years old, I began teaching school at The Pilgrim Academy for the last eight years and have served as the principal of lower school for three of those years.
This past summer, I finished my courses for my graduate work and received my Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Through teaching, I have also been given the opportunity to become involved in Kenpo Martial Arts. I am currently a third degree blackbelt and the chief instructor for ground fighting. I knew that wrestling would come in handy.
I have many loves in my life. Jesus Christ is first; my wife Kathy, my wonderful children and grandchildren are next. My sixth graders are just the most awesome that could be. I thank God because I am involved in teaching and am doing exactly what I belong doing.
Take care everyone, and God bless.
With love,
Harry
