Life
When I left Calhi in 1958, it was with the intention of becoming a Baptist minister. But things changed, and I ended up getting a PhD in political science at the University of North Carolina. I have been a professor at DePaul University in Chicago since 1979, married to Judy for thirty five years, with two grown children. Chicago is, for me, a wonderful place to live. I love the grit, the bluster, the use of public space, the diverse array of neighborhoods, and the sagging but romantic elevated rapid transit system.
I have been a fairly serious bicycle rider most of my adult life. In 1975, I took a 3500 mile bike ride from Chapel Hill NC to Los Angeles. In recent years I have become something of a bike advocate.
