Heather's Story
Life
I am exactly where I thought I would be today, give or take a child!
Since high school I have attended KU and Washburn University. I completed three years in Elementary Education before Brett and I got married (at 21) and we moved to Wichita where I worked in a law firm to support us through his time in the Physician Assistant program at Wichita State. In 2000 we returned to Topeka and rented a small apartment while he traveled the state doing his clinical rotations and I worked as the Administrative Assistant to the owner of an employment agency. In the fall of 2001 Brett began working for a group of orthopedic surgeons and I went back to Washburn where I continued to study Elementary and Early Childhood Ed. I was almost done with my degree (1 semester shy of a dual teaching degree in elementary and early childhood ed) when I gave birth to our first daughter, Hannah Brooke. At this point I became a stay-at-home mom. Seven months...Expand for more
later we bought our first home and Brett was miserable at his job (very unchallenging). In August of 2003 Brett was offered a new position in the Emergency Department at St. Francis where he would get to use more of his diagnostic skills, work less hours, and receive a 40% pay raise - he took the job! Thank God, too because four days later we found out I was pregnant again! The new job has allowed him to be home more and the extra $$$ is nice to help us pay off his student loans and save to build a home. Currently I am very busy keeping up with my two girls as well as serving in several ministries at my church. I am currently serving on the steering team of our local MOPS chapter, volunteering for special events in our Sunday School class and Brett and I lead Crown Financial Ministries here in Topeka. Brett serves on the Elder board of our church now as well, so that makes me an "Elder's wife!" Ha - imagine that at 27 years of age!
