Heather's Story

After high school, I headed off to Bates College in Maine where I met my husband, Chris. We've been married since 1974 and have no kids. We went to Alaska in 1974 for a year of adventure and ended up staying. I finished my bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and worked for many years in the environmental regulatory field. In 2003, Chris and I "retired" and left Juneau on our 43-foot sailboat, Legacy, with our two Portuguese Water Dogs, Kira and Minnow. We've spent the last five years cruising. y 2008, we left Mexico and headed south through Central America to Ecuador. We left our boat in Ecuador during the summer of 2008 and once again returned to the U.S. for a few months. While we were in Mexico, I wrote a book, "A Cruising Cook's Guide to Mexico", which was published by Seaworthy Publications in 2007. It's not going to hit the bestseller list anytime soon, but it's been popular among folks cruising in Mexico. You can read more about our cruising life on our website. Classmates won't let me post it, but just Google "Legacy Sailing". This winter we plan to spend more time in Costa Rica and Panama before heading through the Panama Canal and up to somewhere in the U.S.
