Heather's Story
Life
Live in Fort Mohave, AZ now with my husband and daughter (my last name is now Maloney). We have four cats (inherited a few and others we already owned). We are both fairly busy with our jobs, and looking foreward to my daughter graduating high school at MHS next year. Yes, one year to go. Scares me, too! Please feel free to contact me.
Work Profile:
I am originally from Aurora, Colorado. In high school, I was extremely interested in languages: English (of course), French, and Russian. I was on the swim team for three years and also worked in tech theater building sets.
After high school, I joined the army and was training to become an interrogator in Monterey, CA. While there, got married and started a family. Marriage, unfortunately didn't work, but I have a wonderful daughter from it.
I then went to college at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. Here I earned a B.A. in English with an emphasis on teaching; I also minored in German with a teaching emphasis as well.
After graduating college, I took my first job in Salome, AZ and taught there for two years. I taught English 9, English 11, English 12, Yearbook, and a Careers class; I also sponsored drama club, NHS, and the senior class.
After getting married, I then taught for two and a half years at Humanex Academy, a private school in Englewood, ...Expand for more
Colorado. At Humanex I taught students who couldn't function in a traditional school setting (ADD, ADHD, bipolar, etc). I taught all levels and used individual syllabi for each student, personalizing each student's education.
Five years ago I moved to Bullhead City and taught English 9 and English 11. This year (my fifth at MHS) I am teaching three classes of English 11 and two classes of English 12. Sometimes I feel the angst of karma upon me for my own high school behavior, but it is truely fun. The only thing I hate is the grading...essays and research papers "suck" We don't go across the river much except for church, the library, and the buffets.
I ran for a few years and even completed three half-marathons, but I must say, I am totally out of shape again. Might have something to do with the full time and two part time jobs. Kind of cuts out any real free time. Now that Mike is back in town, I might be able to get to the gym once again. Yipee! I sure could use the stress relief as well.
Our future plans might include moving back to Colorado, hopefully Colorado Springs, within the next five years or so. I'll be very glad to see green again, other than vacation and have highs in the 90s F, rather than lows (in the summer we reach 120s too frequently for my comfort!) Until then, it is the desert for us. Hope to hear from you!
