Heidi's Story

Life I've been a real gypsy for the past 30+ years - I think I'd still be if it weren't for kids and aging parents. And no, I'm not in the military or a missionary or employed by a multinational! I just love to live in new places and I've been able to convince my husband that it's worth doing! Fortunately, our professions have allowed us to - I'm a tourism development consultant and my husband was in international marketing. Here's a quick summary: I met my husband, Alan, in grad school at UC-Berkeley. He got an MBA & I studied City Planning. We followed our shared dream and moved to Sydney (Australia) , lived there 7 years & had our first son, Kai (now 24) there. The recession hit so we moved to Colombia (South America) where my husband is from & where my 2nd...Expand for more
son, Eric (now 20) was born. It's an incredibly beautiful country but safety became a real concern so after living there 4 years we moved to Vancouver (Canada) in 1998. We lived there for 6 years before the rain got to us (well, OK, to me actually). We moved to Charleston, South Carolina 11 years ago to enjoy the sunshine ... and to live closer to my parents who retired in Hilton Head Island. After living on the West Coast & outside of the US, I do have to admit that I've experienced some culture shock back on the East Coast and especially in the South. But, I'll adapt - and maybe start thinking of the next place to live after our kids leave home! Hope to hear from you and, better yet, see you at our next reunion. Yikes! It's been so long! Take care, Heidi
