Teresa's Story
Life
My Spouse
We met while working for the Postal Service in Ft Collins, CO in the fall of 1991. He was a letter carrier, I was a clerk. He was born and raised in New York City, but spent most of his summers at his relatives "la finca" in Puerto Rico. He was in the Air Force at the end of the Vietnam War. Once out, he lived in Michigan, Texas and then moved to Colorado, where we met. He has 2 adult sons, from his first marriage. He retired early from the USPS in Feb 2009.
My Pets
We lost Tootsie, our beloved cat of almost 18 years, this past summer. Her favorite spot when we lived in FL was our screened-in pool area, where she slept the day away. When we lived in the Rocky Mountains on 8 acres, she used to go hiking up mountains with us! She would travel with us as we traveled back & forth between OH & FL. We really miss her.
My Kids
My daughter, Amanda, age 25, is attending Miami University in Oxford, OH. She spent her junior year of high school in Argentina as a Rotary Club exchange student & is bilingual. She attended Florida International University in Miami, FL & Colorado State University, in Fort Collins (which is where she grew up). She decided to take time off from school and worked in Key Largo, FL for a couple years. She now has a son (yes, I'm a grandma!) who will be 4 in March 11!!
My Job
After working for real estate attorney's in Miami for almost 2 years, I am currently unemployed after a near fatal accident in August, 2004, on the way home from my high school's 25-year reunion. Five years later, I am still trying to recover from the accident. I just can't seem to recover from the Post-Traumatic Stress of the accident. I did some Mystery Shopping assignments since ...Expand for more
I could not work full time. It was something I could do part-time & most of it was done in my own home on the computer! Of course the pay wasn't the greatest, but some income was better than no income! We had the pleasure of eating out for free many evenings & even had the opportunity to stay at posh hotels in Miami Beach for free & were even paid to stay there!
Where I've lived
Upon graduation from high school, I took a year off & worked before enrolling at Miami University. After graduating in 1984, I married & moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado. Our daughter was born in August, 1985. We divorced in 1989. After I remarried in 1993, we moved to Red Feather Lakes, a small mountain town (so small the elementary school totaled just 45 students!), 45 miles northwest of Ft. Collins. After 5 years, we decided to move back to Ft. Collins since the kids schools were down in town. In 2001, we packed our bags once more & moved to Miami, FL to be closer to my husband's family. We lived in Homestead, FL & had luck on our side dodging hurricanes, except in 2005. Hurricane Katrina grazed us as she made her way to MS, but Hurricane Wilma hit the area hard & blew our 50 foot mango tree on its side. We moved up to OH in April, 2010 to help care for my mother who now lives in assisted-living. I once again live in my childhood home!!
College Life
I lived on campus all 4 years (why live off campus & have to find time to cook, shop, clean and take more time to get to class?). I joined Kappa Delta Sorority and still remain active through the alumnae chapter, having just reorganized the Miami, FL chapter and served as chapter president. I also have been involved with the Miami Women's Panhellenic Alumnae Chapter.
