Helen's Story

College: Basically the New Jersey College of Commerce was a secretarial/business school. It offered a two year course which I completed in 10 months ... it was like round-the-clock studying, but worth the pain and effort. Located on the boardwalk in Atlantic City the classrooms offered a great view of the beach and ocean. Too bad I didn't have time to enjoy either the beach or ocean at all during 1965. The great part was that I was employed at Burroughs Corporation as a private secretary before I went to take my finals. NO FINALS HAD TO BE TAKEN! And I ended up typing up my diploma on Dec. 30th, 1965. What a way to end the year! Marital Status: Got married in 1965 and still with the same person, but now live at opposite ends of the house. king for Burroughs Corp (now Lockheed Martin) in Dec. of '65 as a personal secretary. Found it rather difficult for a 19-yr-old to fit in. Left there (with a top salary) in Sept. '66 to find a job that I could enjoy more. Worked for General Electric - Lamp Div. in King of Prussia for almost five years, and left there in 1971 when my first child was due. Family: Have three sons, the last born in 1984. Realized at that time that I wouldn't be returning to work outside the home. Currently (2008) have nine grandchildren. Health: You REALLY don't want to know. Been on medication since 1990 for anxiety attacks and clinical depression. Convinced myself that age and weight are just numbers. Plan on doing what I want to do, even if it's staying up until 4 AM and sleeping until noon. When the weather is nice and the mood hits me, I take off with my camera to local parks. Photography is one of my passions.
