Helen's Story

Life I have been married to the same man for the past 31 years, Jim Hayton. We have kids, grandkids, and extra kids that we have collected over the years. We currently live in Bloomfield, New Mexico, where I am a free lance writer (very little published as of yet), and I make exquisite beaded jewelry, both contemporary and Native American style. We have a number of cats, and one dog. In the past I taught Humane Education for the SPCA of Stanislaus with a 35 pound half bobcat named Mondo. I am an excellent cook, who has won a number of first prizes for both my Ultimate Brownies, and 3 Sausage Spaghetti Sauce, and won People's Choice three years running for my Flavor Packed Hearty Green Chili in a red tomato sauce. At one time I was a radio announcer both in Los Gatos and in Modesto California, but mainly these days I concentrate on my writing and beading, as well as being a Grandma to my oldest Grandson, James, And Wife to my hubby, Jim. Update: April 15, 2008 Well, since I last wrote anything on here, I have become a grandma 5 more times. Besides little James, there is Eddie, Aspen, Jacob and Skyler, (of these I have only seen Aspen, but I haven't seen her since she was one and she is almost four now) and this past September we welcomed little Allara Rae into the family. She is a sweet little thing that smiles and laughs. A little "Miss Personality". Douglas and Harley have just returned from Germany with their Mom, as it is becoming very difficult for Military families over there at this time. Plus all the other little ones that call me "Grandma" pop in their thier parents, my "other kids" for a quick hi and a hug. My jewelry business is starting to finally pick up, and I am selling my beaded jewelry all over the country now, mainly because of the Disability conventions that I am invited to have a booth at. Plus friends are always giving out my business cards when someone sees the necklace they happen t...Expand for more
o be wearing that is one of my designs. Our son, John, is currently living in Crescent City, and will be graduating from College of the Redwoods in May of 2008. Our Daughter, Rachel, is now living in Herman, Minnesota, with her husband, Josh and their two children, Little James and Allara. Our Adopted son, Scott, is still currently stationed in Germany even though his wife Millie, and their two children Douglas and Harley Anne, have returned to the area. Because of health issues, I don't travel as much as I would love to, but we are planning a trip out to California during this summer to see friends and family. I also have a place on myspace and check it out by once there typing in mamahan_helen and taking a look at pictures of my jewelry and family. There's even a couple pictures of me. Update June 9, 2009 What's the old saying? When life gives you lemons, make Lemonade? Well, that is what we are doing. Our daughter Rae, and her two have moved back home for the time being. So now my house looks like a cyclone hit it over and over again! (lol!) But it's good having them home. I have finished writing my third book, and hoping that I will be able to get this one published! Cross your fingers for me. It's called "Shattered Dreams", but is first in a trilogy under the heading of "Rainbow Dreams". Will keep you posted on when and if it gets published. My little man James is now in first grade, headed into second. Allara Rae is a little pixie and into everything! Where as James is large for his age, Allara is tiny. At almost 2 years old, she is finally into size 9-12 month clothes. But she talks and is constantly into everything! We are hoping to be able to go to Crescent city for the Reunion in Septmeber, but as will everything else in life, it's up in the air. My health being the main factor in whether or not we are able to go. I hope everyone is well and happy and I haven't bored you too badly.
