Helen's Story

Life I just live on a 160 acre farm on a mountain in the ozark mountains of Arkansas. We are currently building a huge home with log cabin siding on a hillside on our farm. I raise chickens & guinea foul & sell chicks in the springtime. I am currently living in a mobile home near our barn. I love to cut & split wood and garden. I swim in a huge stock tank in the summer when it's too hot to work. Everyone in town knows me as it is a small community. I am in the VFW aux. & do a lot of volunteer work for our veterans. I volunteer at the Lead Hill thrift shop one day a month. I live only 35 miles from Branson, MO. & am a member of a large resort there. I know my way around Branson very well & have seen most of the sights there. Life here is very good & clean. Everyone in town is related. Or so it seems. I am glad that I am an accepted part of this town as not all outsiders are. I am alone most of the time since Al is on the road all month. There is so much to do here I hardly notice I'm alone so much. I haven't even seen all of the land we have. I know we have at least 4 ponds & ...Expand for more
a creek that runs down the middle. We are going to have another pond dug out since the county would like some clay from us. They dig it out & get the clay for nothing. Good exchange. There are currently about 200 goats out here that belong to someone else. They are here to clean up our pasture in exchange for staying here. They are about to have their babies. How cute. Since living here, I have learned to shoot a gun & carry one on me when venturing out into the wild parts here on the farm. We have coyotes, deer, wild turkey, wild cats & small black bear. Those knucklehead dogs can't be trusted to protect me. I have 3 grandchildren who love visiting the farm. My daughter is the only child I have who has children. She teaches college in Wisconsin & is a Physicist. My oldest son is an electronics geek & works all over Chicago & surrounding area. If you see a guy up on a radio tower, it might be him. My youngest son is a challenge. He does very well in life when not in jail. Hey, 2 out of 3 isn't all that bad! Well, there's a hawk circling around so I need to stop here for now.
