More about Hene:"I retired from teaching in the SFUSD after 35 years. I taught at Presidio Middle School as well as Horace Mann MS, and Wilson and Thurgood Marshall high schools. I was the premier Family Life teacher for the district for seventeen years. My work put me on the front page of the Chronicle, in the old Examiner, the Bay Guardian, the New York Times and Playboy as well as numerous television and radio shows.
After the closure of Wilson High School, I created the office of Holocaust Studies for the SF public schools and spent half a decade infusing Holocaust education into all levels of the schools, from elementary through high schools. I also coordinated student travel programs for the schools, taking HS students to Washington, New York and Japan as well as hosting students from Japan and Israel. I also served as an English teacher, reading teacher, social studies teacher and as a high school English Department Head.

I am the Chair of the California Federation of Teachers Retirement Committee, and I am a member of the AFT Retirement Committee.
I belong to a number of democratic clubs and civic organizations.
