Henry's Story
Life
I am a retired engineer, living on a farm in the Bird Hill section of Carroll County, MD,where I have been a resident for 18 years. For the first 38 years of my life, I lived in Northeast Baltimore; but the farm where my brother Sam and I live has been in our family for over a hundred years. Our father, father bought the farm in 1932 from his aunt, who had lived there since 1897. As children, Sam and I considered the farm our second home, as we visited it every Saturday in the winter and several times a week during the summer months.
I started writing poetry while working successively at two Navy Labs (NSRDC...Expand for more
in Annapolis, MD and NSWC in Silver Spring, MD), composing limericks for fellow workers who were retiring, changing jobs, having a birthday, or getting married. Since retirement, I have composed poems mostly about the nature and wildlife indigenous to our farm. I have self published five books of poetry: "Tales of a Country Rhymer," "The Ballad of Bird Hill," "Peach Brandy Farm," "Forests, Fields, and Meadows," and "The Natural Opera," and I am working on a sixth, "Avian Arias."
My degrees include a B.E.S. from Johns Hopkins University and a M.S.E. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, all in electrical engineering.
