HERB's Story
Herb is from Concordville, PA. After High School, I joined the US Air Force and saw the world - or at least part of it. Texas (2 bases); South Carolina; Viet Nam; Thailand; Montana; Texas (again!); Alaska. That was 8-1/2 years of moving around compliments of Uncle Sam and I was ready for a more stable life in the civilian world, so I got out and went to work for Xerox Corporation. I settled down near Newburgh, NY; transferred to Leesburg, VA for 2 years, then transferred to Rochester, NY for 18 years - the longest time I lived anywhere in my life.
After 27 years with Xerox - and an empty nest - Florida had been calling to me for years and I finally answered the call and moved here in 2000. It was tough finding a decent job but in May 2000 I landed a job with Diebold, Incorporated and stayed with them until retirement - Nov 2013.
So I'm here twenty years now (as of 2020)! Seems like only 5 or so. T...Expand for more
he older I get the more time seems to fly by.
In retirement I took up a woodworking hobby. I like the cutting and shaping and assembly: I really don't like finishing, such as paint, varnish, polyurethane, etc. I guess i should find a partner, eh? In addition, I am a volunteer with AARP TaxAide. That organization provides free income tax preparation for anyone in our community. This current season (TY2019) was cut short due to the coronavirus, but hopefully we'll be back next year.
Among my favorite quotes:
"The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money." - attributed to Margaret Thatcher (although it may be paraphrased)
"You don't PAY taxes: They TAKE taxes." - Chris Rock
"The trouble with quotes on the Internet is that it's difficult to determine whether or not they are genuine." - Abraham Lincoln
"Winning is hard. If it was easy, losers would do it." Unknown
