Herbert's Story
Life
After school went into Air Force. Worked as a courier waiting for my school to start. Went to Vietnam in 1965. 1968, and 1970. Came back and took new job as a helicopter supervisor. Worked on helicopters H-19, H-21, HH-43B/F, UH-1F, UH-1N. Married Elizabeth George of Plattsburg, Missouri in 1974. (still married - no children) Retired in 1981 after 20 years 3 months and 10 days. Went to University of South Florida. Graduated (1985) with three business degrees, worked as a mortgage banker. Went back to USF and got two more degrees in secondary education social studies and American Hisotry. (1989). Began teaching in 1990, 9th grade Economics and American Government. Taught 7th grade Geography in an inner city school. Completed my Masters. I have been on every continent, yes even Antarc...Expand for more
tica. Been in every country except some islands (Have made it to Iceland, Greenland, all Caribbean islands, except St George, Tabuaeran (Fanning Island), Diego Garcia, Azores, and Corsica.) Been to all the states, including Hawaii and Alaska. Elizabeth's pet name is Itchyfeet, go figure. We take in kids from Youth For Understanding (foreign exchange students) and really like it. I was seriously injured in two car wrecks (not my fault). Spent 25 days in ICU and 58 days in the hospital in Dec 2000 - Feb 2001, and 14 days in June 2016.. I am still recuperating. I retired. in 2010. Could not work for present governor of Florida. Have you seen how badly teachers are treated in Florida? The Republicans in this state will do anything to cut the throats of the local classroom teacher associations.
