School
I was a misfit in high school, grew up in the military, got straight A's after that. Earned Doctorate to prove I could do it. Became administrator because that is where the money is. Taught Community College and have been a Trustee for the past 8 years. I still take coursework just to keep in touch. I tutor kids in math in spare time. The teachers at Campbell must have been excellent just to put up with me
College
My best years of my life were at SJS. Villafuerte and I were best of friends. Party time galore!!! Postgraduate at SJS was difficult. MA in 1960. Married with kids. Doctorate program at USC until 1975. That's where the "...Expand for more
big boys" go. I remember Thursday's were shot driving over the "hump" to LA each week. Coursework was not difficult, tests were big and bad, big time!!!
Military
My military life started miserably - from San Francisco to Fort Ord, California. It was cold and foggy. We all knew we were destined for Korea and hoped they were preparing us for the assignment - they didn't. Korea was colder and wetter, lots of snow in November 1952. Assigned to Co "F", a rifle company with the 35th RCT. Stationed on the MLR for 2 months then COP 2 for 3 months. I had 20 rotation points right away - 36 needed to rotate. Pulled many recon patrols and experienced the heavy battles- were kicked off COP 2, recapatured it and found our bunker quarters demolished. Our entire platoon received the commendation medal for valor. We suffered 10 KIA and 20 WIA retaking the hill. I rotated home in June and married my sweetheart in July. All in all, I feel the Army helped me grow up into manhood and I shall never forget the friends and buddies of the second platoon of Fox Company in the 35th Infantry Regiment in Korea 1952 - 1953.
