Ilene's Story

So, I've thrown a few dollars at Classmates for a one-year membership. Apologies to anyone who's sent me (unanswered) messages here in the last few years! The best place to find me is FB, under the name Lucrezia Herman. I also manage the Lindenhurst High School Class of '72 FB page - find your way there and send through a request to join!
Life after high school:
Spent 15 years in Ithaca, NY, including 4 immediately after HS getting a BA in EngLit from Cornell. Spent a year at TC, Columbia U. getting an MA which I've never used.
Married and living in the UK since 1988. Got another MA over here in Library & Info Studies. Worked as a librarian at 2 UK universities, but decided to do something more creative/less boring, so enrolled on a "Foundation Degree" (i.e. an Associates Degree) course in Multimedia. Took up a Media Developer post in Jan 2006 with the School of Nursing at the University of Nottingham. Got paid to play with software (Illustrator, Flash, Photosho...Expand for more
p...), record and edit sound, direct and edit "video shoots", etc. Took early retirement in August 2010, but carried on doing much the same work for the same employers on a freelance basis for the next 3 years. ("All the fun bits, with (almost) none of the meetings!")
Life after retirement:
Now that I'm well and truly retired, I spend a lot of my time doing photography, taking the occasional online course, wandering around cities, and sorting out other people's computer problems (as well as my own).
I'm not someone who lives in the past. (No rose-tinted nostalgia glasses perched on *my* nose!) However, living thousands of miles away from where I started, I've found myself increasingly drawn to the idea of 'community', re-establishing contact with those whom I knew, and who knew me, 'way back when', as well as getting to know those folks whose paths didn't cross mine all that much.
