Heurnton's Story

Life What's up y'all! reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. To all the ghetto children of Hyde Park Academy, St. Martin De Porres Academy, and Horace Mann Elementary, rumors of my death are just that-rumors. I am alive and well. Because I had to transfer out of STMDP over to HPCA, I was fortunate enough to have the best of both worlds. I hold the envious distinction of being a Silver Eagle and a Indian to each respective school. Though I had some conflicts with some of you, and some of you( a lot of us actually, perhaps even now) were insecure, arrogant, and had low self-esteem--and practiced the skills of embarassment, exclusion , and peer pressure--I love you all because despite of and in spite of all that that took place in the past, WE ALL MATURED< EVOLVED< AND BECAME BETTER PEOPLE. We learned what our teachers tries to tell us so long ago before it was too late for us-that we all were in a struggle together to achieve as one big family. Not just to prove to the racial world, but to the entire world that we are a force to be reckoned with! Some of you out there may feel that you didn't make it, some of you may feel that you can't make it. You may have felt "What happened to your friends?". You may have thought that "I was mean to this person" or " I didn't respect that person enough". " All I realize now is that they just wanted a friend and to talk" Well people this is a nice place to talk. A nice place to give people their props/ respect. A nice place to catch up with friends. a nice place to network and let people know that you are ready to become a more, mature skilled person who is not just satisfied with their current job. a nice place to give people that you thought falsely were strange and weird that you now realize needed help to socialize and friendship with. Brothers and sisters, we are the hardest people on ourselves it's SICKENING!!! Now that we have had experienced our heartaches, our family drama, gained and lost money, gotten traumat...Expand for more
ized physically, spritually, emotionally-let's make a new start here. Let's talk about what makes us happy-what made us sad. Let's talk about lessons learned. Starting with me. I attended Eastern Illinois University to pursue a degree in computer science. That happened down in Charleston, Illinois, 50 miles south from Champaign, home of U of I downstate. Came back to Chicago and bounced around throughout the north, south, and west sides of the town, during which I lived, loved and laughed. Currently residing in Oak Park, Illinois for the past 5+ years. Overcame my asthma disability, family drama (Let's hear some people talk about how that affected their lives!) and learning through trial and error about life in the work place. Also got my war stripes from Horace Mann Elementary school ( We will strive to be the best of the best. We will have pride and self control at all times. It will show in the way we walk, the way we talk, the things we do and what we say. We will pass any test to be the best of the best. Remember that? And then George W. Bush came! Hey, high school, you didn't tell us we have to deal with his ass!) But I digress. I have been known to stay in touch with the following individuals: Shauntina Gillespie, Sarah Ann Butler. Definitely remember Mrs. Shenna Birgans, Horace Mann class valedictorian. How are Dolores, Big Melody, Shawngo, Kimesha, Anita, Sandy, and Denise doing? Good people all trying to find themselves back then. Possibly now. Great memories for all of us. Even better lessons learned. Let's try to not make the same mistakes our parents did in raising us. There is always a brighter tomorrow. I look forward to hearing from you all soon. Until then, use your mouth to speak the truth, use your ears to listen to other people's spirit of joy and pain. But at the end of the day, SURVIVE because you still gotta eat and take care of your family. No one else will do that but YOU. No one else CAN do that but YOU. GOD bless you all, GOD save us all.
