Bibi Ela's Story
After high school, I served in the military for 3 years of active duty, including a year in Sinop, Turkey. It's in way northern Turkey, on the Black Sea. The area is very rural .. but beautiful! I also served in Kentucky, Tennessee, New Jersey, Massachusetts and North Carolina.
My active duty stint was followed by 3 years of Army ROTC at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. While at James Madison, I worked as a National Park Service Ranger in Shenandoah National Park.
I then moved to New Jersey and went to work in New York City (where I also served 7 years in the Coast Guard Reserves). I worked in Midtown Manhattan and served on Governor's Island and Fort Wadsworth.
During that time, I earned my Master's Degree in Business Administration, while working full-time at The Conference Board. I was one of the very earliest online degree candidates; my class was the third class to graduate with an entirely online degree! :->
My husband and I got engaged in June of 2006, after dating for a year and a half. We were married in January of 2007.
We originally planned to have a church wedding in our hometown, but got married on a cruise ship, instead. It was the BEST decision we could have made .. we were treated like royalty, and they handled EVERYTHING for us. (Well, except for the favours. I LOVE to make things, so I had the best time making huge...Expand for more
favour baskets for all of our guests!!)
I found a cruise ship wedding to be a lot more fun, and in keeping with my style, than the "cookie cutter" country club/catering hall/church hall wedding I would probably otherwise have had. I would definitely do it again (with the same groom, of course! ;->)
Here's another neat thing: when we got married, we'd both been living on our own for 20+ years each and had TWO complete households of "stuff". The last thing we needed to do was register for MORE "stuff" (or have a bridal shower!) So, I registered on Amazon.com .. for cat food, ferret food, dryer sheets, and other necessities of our lives.
My wonderful friends saw this and decided to surprise me with a virtual "dryer sheet shower". I had dryer sheets mailed to me from ALL over the U.S. .. and even a few locations outside of the U.S. I think I got a six month supply right there (and I use a LOT of dryer sheets). :->
In October 2007, we had our first child - a little girl. (Who would have thought it was possible to have a honeymoon baby at the age of 40?!) She was definitely a great surprise, and we're especially blessed that she is very happy AND sleeps through the night! :->
So, I'm currently living in northwestern New Jersey with my wonderful husband and baby daughter. :->
I always love to get back in touch with old friends (and make new ones)! :->
