Eve's Story

Jr. High School friends might remember me from Pep Squad. High School Friends probably will remember drama (the class/club, not the emotion), diving, swimming, and serving as scorekeeper for men's water polo and swim teams. College friends will remember me for acting and musical theatre, and for being a party animal; university friends will remember me as the old lady with a young son who came back to throw off the grading curve. Grad school friends...well, hell, there were only seven of us in the end - if you don't remember me, you might be senile. My favorite moment of grad school? "Pop goes the weasel, and the Goddamn wind!" Life After more than a few "misspent years," I finally got my head on straight. With my (then) 3-year-old son, I enrolled at the University of Arizona and earned a BFA in Musical Theatre. After that, I returned to So. Cal. and got an MFA in Acting at Cal State Fullerton. I started teaching (got a job right away - how lucky is that?!?) in the Theatre Dept. at Cypress College. When I was one year away from the comfort of tenure at Cypress, I decided I wanted to teach at a "conservatory" university - one with professionally geared students; so, on the advice of a friend, I took a job as the Head of Musical Theatre at Iowa State University. I had never seen the midwest, except for from a plane window, and really enjoyed the opportunity to raise my then 14-year-old son in a safer community than O.C. (sorry, but I KNOW the temptations that would have awaited him here). :) After two years of WINTER in Iowa, I got a job closer to home - teaching Acting and Directing at the University of Arizona in Tucson. So, from one extreme of weather to another - nothing half-way about my life choices, eh? Three ye...Expand for more
ars (and many frustrations) later, I got my dream job - a teaching position in the Musical Theatre BFA at Cal State Fullerton. This happened just after my son graduated from high school, thank God - a move before he finished school in a city where he finally felt "at home," and I would have been a candidate for the WORST Mother of the Year... After starting at CSUF, I was immediately promoted (or tricked into?) heading the Musical Theatre BFA. So that's where I am now. I teach musical theatre, acting and directing courses, direct at least one main stage musical each year, and act/direct/sing as often as possible in the LA metro area. Finally, during the past 14 summers, I have been fortunate enough to sing at the Hollywood Bowl in (what has now grown/morphed into) their annual summer "Reprise" staged version of musicals, starring some very big names! This summer (2008), they did GUYS & DOLLS, and didn't need a back-up chorus (sad!). Hoping we're back next year. So, here I am - all grown up (nearly). I live in Brea and work in Fullerton (really beautiful cities, in many ways reminiscent of the Orange County that I grew up in). My now 24-year-old son graduated with an Electrical Engineering BS from CSUF (love that tuition reduction perk!) in Dec. 2008!!! He's still at home, and has become a smart, funny man I like to hang out with. I'm single, loving life, missing friends and family who have moved away/and or lost touch, meeting new people all the time, teaching some of the greatest kids I have ever known (many go directly from school into Broadway shows, national tours, cruise ship and theme park entertainment, and other professional settings). Life is good! So how are YOU doing? I'd love to hear about it.
