Michael's Story
Life After High School I graduated from Moorpark with an AA. I went to work for General Electric. I married Patty Barnard (class of 77) in June of 1979. Finished my BA and spent 5 1/2 years with them GE. GE sold off the division of the company that I worked with and I took that opportunity to take a commission in the Army. I entered the Army in March of 1984. I went to basic training as a PFC then on to officer training (OCS). I was commissioned a 2LT in August of 1984. I then attended the signal officer basic course and jump school. My first duty assignment was with the 82d Airborne. I was there for 42 months and made 42 jumps. I then attended advanced communications school with the USMC. I then had my first tour of duty in Europe, Stuttgart Germany for 3 years. After three years I returned from Europe and went to the 1st Cav. Division in TX. After three years I was assigned to 1 year tour in the Sinai Egypt. Then on to Ft. Lewis Washington. After 2 years in the ever green state I returned to Stuttgart. After 3 more years in Stuttgart I returned to Ft. Leavenworth KS to teach at the College. I retired as a LTC after 20 years and 25 days. I'm now a DoD contractor with Lockheed Martin working in AZ. A long the way Patty and I had two kids. Our oldest is Carrie who turned 33 this past November (2013). Carrie graduated from Baylor in 2003 with a BS in Social work. She jumped right into her graduate studies at KU and graduated in 2005 with her Masters in Social Work. She currently work at Balboa Navel Hospital (San Diego) on the US Army Wounded Warrior ward as a clinical social worker. 5 years after Carrie was born our second child came along, a son, Ryan. Ryan, Keith is his middle name and what he goes by, is in has his degree in Air Traffic Management from Emory Riddle, an aviation school in Daytona Beach FL. He is an Air Traffic Controller at the Denver Airport. Patty and I have been married now for 34 years (June 1979).
