Holly's Story

Life Hello Everyone! I am much the same as I was in high school - only older and a little gray around the edges! I want to come back and see all of you - I never made it to any of the other reunions - did we have a lot? I miss New York - I don't get back very often - where did all the time go??? XOX Hol I am still in Houston. Became a teacher, taught 25 years, retired to take care of Mom (she's 93 now). Have two kids: Marc - age 27 (leader of a local rock band), and Carrie - age 24, another teacher. They are soooooo different! He is my sensitive soul - writes music and plays 5 instruments. She is the tough, no nonsense workaholic (don't know where she gets that from!) Married twice - Now married to my dance partner, George. We perform all around the world in a group called The Spirits of Houston - it is a square dancing/round dancing group of about 20 couples. (Round dancing is cued ballroom.) Last trip was to Greece, and this year we are hoping to go to the Orient. Locally, we do the state dances and nationals. I taught science and math and loved it! We got to write our own curriculum and I had a great team. We went to science conventions around the United States and presented our lessons. I was lucky to have a bunch of great people to work with most of my teaching life. We still have the same house we moved into in '65, and George and I have a house down the street. We are down to one dog and a cat we rescued on the freeway this past summer. The dog is a little white mop thing, named Sugarbear. He was a foundling too. He is part Maltese and part...Expand for more
poodle, the vet thinks. Must be orange poodle, as he has orange spots that look funny onhis white fur. The cat is a silver tabby, named Chancellor - Chance for short because he has a second chance at life. They said he fell out of a car engine on the freeway where he had been sleeping. The driver probably didn't even see him. He was so tiny and had broken ribs and a torn paw. He's a year old now, and a great big baby. Hobbies? I went crazy when I retired! I wanted to do everything I had been putting off for years! First, I slept for three months! George was amazed that anyone could sleep so much. I was just exhausted! Then I went through a whole pile of reading material I'd been saving forever. Then I signed up for every course I ever wanted to take: painting (no talent), book club (I found reading books more fun than discussing them), cooking (gained too much weight), flowers (still a first love), and basket weaving - fantastic! I found a master basket weaver in LaGrange, TX, about 90 miles from here. So far, I have made 12 baskets and love doing it. She boils walnut shells for the stain and they are really lovely. Got into stamping - George says I could have bought 3,000 cards for what I have spent in supplies! Oh, yes, and the Red Hat ladies. We just go out to eat once a month. Lively group. Been taking Spanish so I can talk to the kids I sub with now. And doing the Bible in a year - interesting study, if not a little rushed. I am behind in my reading - may have to do that one again. OK, enough, already!!! E-mail me! Hope to talk to you soon! XOX Hol
