Holly Williams Oct 24 2008 | General Most of my story On Dec. 10, 1958 I and two of my friends (W. D. Wimberley and James Applegate) went down to the Midland employment agency and applied for jobs with The Texas Company. All three of us landed jobs and almost immediately went to McCamey, Texas. There we learned what a Seismic Crew was. We were at the bottom of the ladder. What followed was a lot of hard work. It required a lot of walking and planting geophones. We were looking for oil. I only stayed a year because I still didn't know what I was going to do. After 3 or 4 months I decided to go back to work planting geophones and wound up back where I started except I worked for Texaco, Inc. It was the same company. I decided to apply myself toward a better job so took electronics courses and soon realized that I had a pretty good job. My degree was just an Associate Degree but I was very interested in what I was doing. After 5 years I had completed most of the courses offered by Texaco so I enrolled in a correspondence course from CIE. Texaco decided to send me to school in their lab at Bellaire, Texas where I learned all about seismic recording trucks. I was promoted to Assistant Recorder and given more responsibility. I relieved the Recorder who is the field head boss on a seismic crew. ...Expand for more
