Holly's Story

Most of my story
On Dec. 10, 1958 I and two of my friends (W. D. Wimberley and James Applegate) went down to the Midland employment agency and applied for jobs with The Texas Company. All three of us landed jobs and almost immediately went to McCamey, Texas. There we learned what a Seismic Crew was. We were at the bottom of the ladder. What followed was a lot of hard work. It required a lot of walking and planting geophones. We were looking for oil. I only stayed a year because I still didn't know what I was going to do.
After 3 or 4 months I decided to go back to work planting geophones
and wound up back where I started except I worked for Texaco, Inc. It was the same company. I decided to apply myself toward a better job
so took electronics courses and soon realized that I had a pretty good job. My degree was just an Associate Degree but I was very interested in what I was doing. After 5 years I had completed most of the courses offered by Texaco so I enrolled in a correspondence course from CIE. Texaco decided to send me to school in their lab at Bellaire, Texas where I learned all about seismic recording trucks.
I was promoted to Assistant Recorder and given more responsibility. I relieved the Recorder who is the field head boss
on a seismic crew. ...Expand for more
I was transferred to another crew that was located in Hobbs, NM. I had more of the same except I made several trips back and forth from the field to Bellaire. In 1969 I was given a Recorders title and took over the head job on the field crew. We moved several times
but the money was good. In 1975 I was promoted to Seismic Crew Chief.
I was responsible for the operation of the whole crew. In 1983 Texaco shut down some crews and combined others. Through all that I was given a job at Bellaire, Texas in the Geophysical processing center. So I had an office job that I really liked. I stayed there for 11 years and took early retirement when they offered it. That's all about my job but I got married to My Sweetheart in June, 1962. I met her in Ft. Stockton, Texas while I was working there. We have 3 children and all of them are married with kids of their own. We have 8 Grand children and all of them live around here, Magnolia, Texas.
We are now involved in our Church work.
I guess one thing I can truthfully say is that I have never missed a payday since May 17, 1960.
Of course there will always be more about me and Our family but we are happy here.
I've only mentioned some of the high points and like everyone else
there's still more that will probably never be told.
Sincerely Yours:
Holly J. Williams
