Hollyanna's Story

Life Here's a summary of what's happened since I've graduated: *Attended one year at Albertson College. I felt I no longer knew why I was in school anymore--lost focus--so I decided to drop out (for the time being) and get married to my sweetheart! *After getting married, my new husband and I moved to Seattle, Washington, as he began his time serving in the United States Coast Guard. We lived there about a year-and-a-half. I didn't really like it in Seattle. Sure, I felt self-important to have removed myself from Fruitland, which we all know is "the boonies." But Seattle was too crowded, too hustle-and bustle for me. --Though I do have to admit, there is a lot to do there, and shopping is glamorous downtown! I got pregnant while in Seattle, and had my daughter, Star, at Swedish Hospital. She was/is a cute little thing with pretty blue eyes and red, curly hair! *In 2005, my husband went to MK school out in Virginia. So, we packed up our little family and DROVE cross-country! The highlight of the drive was our detour to the Mall of America. The downside? LONG HOURS of sitting; driving through creepy towns; and the hazardous east-coast roads, completely covered in black ice and snow! We only stayed in Virginia for a few months before packing up again, and moving back to the west coast to Astoria, Oregon. I love Astoria! I always felt like I was meant to live here, and well, here I am! It's very beautiful and is a small town, but doesn't have the snobbish air that permeates my "precious" hometown of Fruitland, Idaho. (Okay, so I still have some fond memories of Fruitland, and still visit my family in ...Expand for more
Idaho frequently. It's just that I hate the lack of community and sophistication in that podunk town. I felt from the time I moved there, to the time I left; I was surrounded by the most uptight, snobby, holier-than-thou people I have EVER, EVER been exposed to ANYWHERE. Congratulations, Fruitland! You are full of jerks. However, in all fairness, I feel I received an awesome education there. Just things like social politics and ignorance of the masses annoyed me to no end--and still do.) Anyway, being here is Astoria is nice. It is the best of all worlds. I feel I am in the right place, and that is a great feeling to have. The only dissatisfaction I really have, is that I may not be doing all I can for personal achievement. My longing in life is to bring others comfort and joy. Right now I am thinking that I would like to volunteer with the elderly. Our society seems to worship the values of youth: beauty, virality, voracity, strength, recklessness. But I feel the older we become, the less of use society seems to deem us in-general. Older people often have often lost their spouses and friends. Sometimes their children just drop them in the homes and leave them. I feel one of my goals in life is to bring back our seniors in a way that frees them from the "old trap." How can they better share their wisdom with the world? What do they have to teach us? This whole thing has turned into an essay, but it is a biography, after all so...It is a chance to share who I am. I wish you all well, and thank you for checking out my profile. Please don't hesitate to drop a note just to say "hi." Holly
