Horace's Story
I guess the biggest change in my life which I am trying to deal with is , Sherry, my wife and best friend of 51 yrs suddenly passed away with pancreatic cancer 2 days before Christmas 2021. I have to preface my original profile with this latest and most challenging change in my life. I am trying to deal with it… best I can ….. now back to my regularly scheduled profile !
II am in the "Jimmy Buffet" stage of life. No more suits or ties for me. Give me a Tommy Bahama silk Hawaiian Flowerdy shirt, shorts, flip flops.....drink with or without the umbrella, long as it is long and cool. Pretty much my daily attire.
Excess in ALL Things......pretty much the way I have lived my life....Then and Now!
I am a Renaissance type guy with LOTS of interests.
1. I enjoy great old wines, mostly California Cabernets or French Bordeaux's.
2. I wish I could say that I am a gourmet cook......I am at least a pretty good,"experimental cook" sorta like Dr. Frankenstien in the kitchen.
3. I am very interested in many kinds of ART and have a modest collection.
4. I play a number of instruments,(actually I mostly just own them, but I try) and when the weather is nice, I can be found on the porch of my Victorian home in the countryside of Bartonville, Texas (N of DFW close to Denton/Flower Mound)with a cold "adult beverage" in one hand and an ol' guitar in the other.
5. Although my daughter is the really good singer/musician in the family and I am just a "legend in my own mind"! Ha. I do enjoy song writing and strumming my guitar, playing a fiddle, or humming a tune on a hormonica.....most especially the "Blues". Not currently playing in a band anymore though.
6. I am...Expand for more
a fan of "real country" music....the old kind, not the Nash-Vegas kind that is played on the radio today. I also like Texas Singer/ songwriters. Max Stalling, Robt. Earl Keene, Lyle Lovett, Joe Ely, Townes VanZandt, Ray Wylie Hubbard (even though he is from Okla., Guy Clark, Billy Joe Shaver....too many to list.
7. My love for the outdoors started with my being on the interpretive staff for the Dept. of Interior at Glacier Nat'l Park, Montana as a seasonal Park Ranger/ Naturalist back in my college days.
8. I have snow skiied all over the US
and Switzerland. Don't ski so much anymore. (Old bones don't bend.....they now break)
We have traveled Lots over the years being in the Airline business and taken lots of cruises. Still want to go to Costa Rica, Spain (somehow missed that place in Europe)Egypt, and New Zealand.
9. I spend lots of time at my hunting lease N of Bowie where my son and our friends mostly drive around in large trucks, drink cold beer, target shoot all sorts of weapons....handguns and anything semi-automatic, and blow up stuff....every guys' dream! Wish Dynamite was legal....LOL
10. I have so many other intersts. My new found love of car collecting. I love speeding down the highway in my Metallic Pink 1963 Cadillac Convertible ......top down....a good cigar.....Beach Boys on the radio....makes one feel 18 again......Almost!
……Now, After Sherry’s passing, I guess I have gone a little crazy, to try to help with my sadness and depression, I purchased a Red Bentley Continental convertible…. so now if you would like to go riding, we can speed along at 200 mph !… really! Give me a shout. I need a new friend and co-pilot.
