Biggest crush?? Now that would be telling!! But in Mass she/they were 2 ,3 & 4 yrs older, crush infatuation call it what you want, In NH ,I dated them......well,most of them.
Inspiring teacher??Without a doubt the most interesting teacher was Richard Lamerand,he did know how to keep your attention, actually I enjoyed all the teachers I had at Appleton.Teachers in Mass?? Everyones teacher Mrs. L. the first grade teacher (never could spell her last name) ,Mr.Labine was relatable & John D. the superintdent ,he was quite a guy, during hunting season,he'd go hunting in the morning, come in for our 11:00 AM English class (8thgrade),he'd still have his red hunting clothes on all red, and his 30-06 bullet belt w/ bullets in it, imagine anyone wearing something like that to school today???Thats what I loved about John D.,he was a regular guy, not some uppity up, nose in the air better than you type!
Workplace
After HS I got a job in construction, they were looking for bricklayers,so I said why not, and it was on the job training, so being paid to learn a trade, then at 24 they made me a mason foreman for the company who by the way had 1,100 employees working for them at the time & were the largest Construction firm in NH & in the top 400 in the US. After 5 yrs. as a mason foreman they moved me up to to superintendent, so at 29 I was a project supt. in charge of the construction of buildings from start to completion.Fol...Expand for more
lowing 2 yrs. at supt., I was promoted,to position of senior project manager,& after 5 yrs again promoted to Head of all Construction Operations, responsible for all construction operations at which time our dollar volume was $150 mil to $200 million/yr.I became restless& started thinking about starting my own business,so I gave my notice and did start my own masonry business large commercial work,to name a few projects my company completed were the brick & granite on the new Chemisty Building(The Burke Building) @ Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. my masonry contract was $ 1.1 million, another at Dartmouth project was Webster Hall renovations, elevator shaft etc.,the VA Hospital in White River Junction VT,Contract was $1 million + several large schools,w/ contracts $ 1 million plus,as well as alot of smaller projects one of note was the Christa McAuliffe Planatarium in Concord NH the origional is the brick w/ the glass pyramid shaped roof. Then In 1996 moved to SC & my busness prospered in SC & the SE far beyond what I would have deamed, but branched to other areas, not relating to masonry.Since we have been in SC our work has taken us to Maine NH. VT.MA. NY .NJ every state on the eastern seaboard south to FL.to several in Texas, Tucson AZ.actually pretty much every state east of the Mississippi,w/ projects pending in Alaska. Most of our work is in large Distribution Centers 500,000 SQFT. to 2.2 million SF,to Lowe's retail Centers,as well as Wal*Mart Super Centers and it has been Great!!
One thing I was always aware of, as an employee was, companies,no matter what the industry,or type of work, blue collar, or white collar including management is,they will pay you as little as it takes to keep you!Never as much as it takes, but as little!I decided I didn't want a ceiling put on my earning ability, by someone else.Having my own business, there is no ceiling on earning potential other than my own ambition!!
