Howard's Story

Hi and thanks for stopping by. I've heard directly from many old friends over the last year or so and also noticed that a number of others have visited this profile page. So, I concluded it was time to collapse the last 35 years into a couple of paragraphs. Following graduation from PHS I spent four years at Rutgers College, and an additional year at Rutgers Graduate School of Management. I married my first wife and went to work for IBM in September of 1978. Our son Jonathan, now 25, is a special needs success story, having overcome Tourettes Syndrome. He graduated from U of Hartford in 2006 and works as a tech support specialist for Vonage. I am still with IBM, where I have held a variety of strategy, marketing and sales positions and reached the 30 year mark in September of 2008. Along the way we've lived in Edison and North Brunswick, NJ, Atlanta, GA, Memphis, TN, Atlanta, GA (again), Chicago, IL and returned to the New York area, actually Brookfield, Connecticut, in 1994 when I joined the executive ranks at IBM. My first marriage ended in 2002 and probably like many of you, I discovered Match.com and other online dating sites. My second wife, Debbie, and I actually met through e-Harmony. She's a wonderfully talented woman from NYC who has her own interior decorating and design business. Some of her work can be viewed on her website, DebbieDann.com. We married in 2004 and settled in the Greenwich, CT area. As for the rest of my family, following a three year fight with cancer, my father passed away in February, 2005. As I'm the local son, I find myself in Wyckoff, NJ on a regular basis, where my mom has lived for a number of years. My younger brothers, Lee and Mark, have both enjoyed success in their business and private lives. Lee was recently named Chief Executive, Global Programs with Wipro. He, his wife Joyce and their two boys, Evan & Ryan reside in Georgia. Mark, as some of you may be aware, has had an incredible career with Ford, where he is currently President of The Americas. He, his wife Jane and their two boys Zachary and Max make their home in Florida. I have been in touch with a number of folks from our class including Mike Greenzeig, Diana Fox, Karrie Olick, Barry Miller, Larry Lerman, Sharon Yar...Expand for more
koni, Chuck Brotman, Becky Shepson, Shelley Gilbert, Jeannie Fisher, Linda Lenihan and most recently, Carlen Schmidt and Wendy North. I reconnected with many of these folks when we planned and held a PHS Choir Reunion in honor of Norm Allen in 2002 at Disneyworld. We were able to get in touch with about 800 of the students Norm taught during his 26 years at PHS and about 150 of them showed up, many with their families in tow, to sing and party for the weekend. The PHSChoir.org website we created is still up and contains pictures from the reunion. We also recorded a concert which can be heard at Esnips.com. If anyone is interested in hearing that recording please contact me and I will tell you how to navigate that website. And finally, I'll share a little info regarding my life-long hobby, music. I have been a musician in one form or another since elementary school. (Anyone else from Ridge Ranch remember our music teacher, Sylvia Hockman and those ridiculous flute-o-fones?) My musical interests span voice, piano, trumpet, band, jazz band, choir, composing and performing during and intermittently since college and recording. I continue to enjoy and share music today via a number of music websites such as, SingSnap.com, esnips.com, ReverbNation.com and I've recently started putting videos up on YouTube. Anyone interested can find a handful of my original compositions and many "covers" of music from the soundtrack of our lives by searching either Google or each individual website for my pseudonym, PCSongman. Esnips.com has more than 150 MP3 (audio) recordings while the other sites offer audio, and in some cases video, for selected songs. These recordings include solo and duet work with friends from across North America and elsewhere around the world. So technology, and especially computers, run deeply through every facet of my life. My wife, my job, and even my music are each the result of using this technology. Even after 30 years at IBM I remain in awe of the things that these machines have enabled us to do over the last 35 years and can't wait to see what the next 35 years will bring. I'd enjoy hearing what many of you have been up to for the last 35 years. Please send me a note here on Classmates. Regards, Howard
