Jason's Story

Life When we all graduated in May 1990, I moved to Colorado with my mom and sisters on that Saturday. I have been back to Oklahoma twice since that time. Each time was as I was passing through to Louisiana when I was returning from leave. In 1990, I attended New Mexico Military Institute in preparation for the Air Force Academy. I went to USAFA from 1991-1992, and was promptly dismissed for academic reasons. I lived in Colorado Springs from 1992 to 1993 and got bored. I joined the Army in 1993 and went to Fort Benning GA for basic. I graduated Infantry school and was assigned to Fort Polk Louisiana with the 2nd Armored Cavalry. In 1994 I got married to a girl I met in Texas and got divorced in 1995. We were married for a year. I guess it was the stress of going to foreign countries and other Army issues. Speaking of that, our unit went to Haiti in 1995 as part of Operation Uphold Democracy. I served there 6 months, did and saw some crazy things and got a few medals. In 1997, I got honorably discharged from the Army after 4 years of service. They wanted me to re-enlist, but I had enough fun in the woods playing GI Joe. I returned to Colorado and attended Metro State College of Denver from 1997-2000. I am still a senior, with 100 of 120 hours completed for my degree. I left school in 2000 so I could go to the Denver Police Academy. I graduated from the Academy on August 11, 2000 and got my badge. I am currently assigned to District 6 as a patrolman and will be promoted to Police Officer 1st Grade on May 11, 2003. I have a house in East Denver in an area called Green Valley Ranch and enjoy the fact that I am 4 blocks from the golf course.............. Its now July 19th 2004 and things are going well for me. I will be graduating from college with a BS in Criminal Justice in May 2005. Hopefully I will be testing for detective in the summer of 2005. The call volume for the police this summer is off the charts. Violent crime is up almost 85% and we have had more homicides so far this year (59) than we did in all of 2002 (42). I guess the heat and a poor job market make people want to kill each other. It is now May 2006 and things are going very well for me. I have graduated from Metro State with a degree in Criminal Justice. I am now serving in the DUI unit and I am busy filing cases with the District Attorney for drunk drivers. I am excited about taking drunks off the road because of the danger they create for everyone. I was involved in an accident on duty with a dui in 2003. I was stopped in a lane of traffic writing an accident report. I had all of my red and blue lights on and a drunk driver crashed into my police car at about 40 MPH. I missed some work after that accident because of neck and back injuries. The guy who hit me got 8 years for driving under the influence and vehicular assault. ITS NOW Jan 11 2007. I am going be starting my 8th year...Expand for more
on the department in March. Time has flown by. I will be named as an instructor for the DUI unit in April. My duties will include teaching at the police academy for a week every quarter. Our unit teaches the recruits how to process drunk driving arrests. We also do refresher courses for veteran officers. They have to recertify on DUI cases every three years. The instructor position will mean more $$$ for me and it will look great on my resume when I decide to take the exam for sergeant. School On May 15th, 2005, it finally happened. I graduated from Metro State College of Denver with a BS in Criminal Justice College I attended several colleges on my way to get the degree. I was at New Mexico Military institute from 1990-91. I was at the Air force academy 1991 to 1992 and was dismissed for academic problems. I attended Metro State College of Denver from 1997 to 2000 and then got hired by Denver Police. I returned to school in 2003 and graduated in 2005. A long road, but well worth it in the end. I am very glad that I was a veteran returning to school so my Uncle Sam could pay the bills!! Workplace I worked at the golden arches in high school. 29th and douglas. I was a cook at Chi Chi's in Colorado springs before joining the army. While at metro State from 1998 to 2000 I worked at a correctional facility with parolees. Of course in March 2000 I got hired by the Denver Police and I am working there now.
