Sal's Story

Life I'll try not to write a bio novel. I have three children, all grown, out in the world and I would hope making it a better place. Two of them Steve and Sonny also graduated from North High in 1990 and 1992. In 1989, Steve was at 17 1/2 and wished to sign up with the U.S. Army. Steve is now a retired Warrant Officer 5. He was a Black Hawk, UH58D, and an AH64 Apache helicopter pilot, later becoming an instructor/accident investigator. He retired from the Army after 30 years of service. He is now a Aeronautical Instructor at a local college. He has now been accepted to head the ROTC unit at the college. Steve's wife, Melinda, also retired from the Army after 20 years. They had two sons whom also served in the Army, Steve, Jr. and Eric. Sonny graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in MO. Sonny is a Doctor in The U.S. Army. He was promoted to The Chief Medical Officer and the Deputy Commander at Fort Bliss's Wm. Beaumont Hospital. Sonny's wife Kristin, also served in the Army. Stacee earned her GED in 1999 and lives in Phx. She loves her job. We are guardians of two of our grand children, Charelle and Justin which we have raised since they were born in 1992, and 1996. Both work in Phoenix full time and are doing Good. I am Very Proud of them All. I went to Madison #3 or Richard C. Simis School as it was known. Even though I emailed allumni, No one keeps in touch from Simis, .. so sad! I enjoyed high school immensely, especially sports; baseball, track, wrestling, and of course Football. I always had a paper route of some kind (8 yrs) and I also worked part time at Bashas Market at Bethany Home Rd. and 16th Street. I loved the newspaper and grocery business. I was a newspaper brat most all of my grade school and high school years. Even while attending Phoenix College, I had an Arizona Republic newspaper auto route. In 1967, I was offered a District Advisor/Trouble shooter position, which I accepted. Each time a state district went down I would have to go make it functional again. What ever the case, any time a State District Advisor was fired, quit, retired, or died I was sent to sort out the situation, sometimes under the worst conditions imaginable. I finally settled in Cottonwood, Az. when a DA was in an auto accident and he was not physically able to return to work. I lived there for 3 years. I was even shot on the job there. tution for that offense. I was transferred to Prescott for a short time, when cutbacks were announced. I returned to Phoenix in '70 and starting working in fire equipment, training employees, and fire brigades. And that's what I was doing up to my retirement in July of 2005. While working full time in several towns, I joined various Volunteer Fire Departments in Cottonwood and Page, AZ. After working for South West Fire Equipment. for 9 yrs. new owners from Florida took over and bought SWF out. Within 6 months Salt River Project called and offered me a position in Page, AZ., at The Navajo Generating Station as a Fire Equip. service man. I joined The Page Volunteer Fire Dept. while working for Salt River Project and trained firemen at the plant as well being a firemen in The Page Fire Department. I was transferred back to Phoenix in 1983. I serviced all the hydro electric dams, Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, as well as all SRP facilities and provided fire training for all employees. Loved It! I decided to retire in July 2005. After leaving God's country in Arizona, I moved to Coeur D'Alene, ID in 2005, In the Heart of another God's Country. It is So So Beautiful here. Here, I met a former high school friend Barbara Tate Class of 1968. After dating for a while, we decided we were tight and right for each other. We are now married Soul Mates. Sal and Vada (Barbara) Tate Huitron. We Are Very Happy Here And In Our New Lives Together. Vada's G-Pa, Homer Tate owned The Thing, south of Tucson. He also owned a museum in Apache Jct. and a work shop in Phoenix where he created many circus gaffs, which are now highly collectible. If you have some time, Google him. He was an Amazing man. Anyone knowing him is welcome to contact Vada (Barabara) Tate concerning his works. Life doesn't end with retirement, it is a new beginning. Update: 2/2006 I went back to work for Coeur d'Alene School District here in Idaho. Now, I'm back in shape and feeling great! Update: 12/2010 Well, I retired again, but I'm keeping busy catching up on house work and helping run Vada's antique business. Update: 1/2016 Hired as a Valet at Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene. AWESOME! Back in shape again. Been at the COVID19 testing Facility directing traffic since Feb. 2020. Such fun directing and dodging cars all day long. Doing Great My friends. Keep In Touch, I'd Love To Hear From Any and All Classmates!! Sal
