Eric's Story
I went off to college after graduation--two years to the University of Maine at Orono, while my family was in Copenhagen. My dad who was a US Consul with the US Dept. of State, was then transferred to the American Consulate in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, which is on the Rio Grande right up against El Paso. We became residents of Texas when he bought a house in El Paso, and that made me eligible for Texas in-state tuition rates, so I transferred from U. of Maine to the U. of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), of Glory Road fame.
I graduated in 1976, and went on thru graduate school, getting an MA in Political Science in 1981. I got married in 1982, my wife had two young children already from a failed first marriage, and we raised them as well as two more...Expand for more
. We've been married now over 25 years, the oldest girl Heather, is an attorney living in Dallas, the next, our son Howard, is in business in Austin, Stephanie, now 22, is in graduate school at UT Austin working on her CPA, and the youngest, Danielle, is 17, still at home, and is a Junior in high school.
I currently work for a large private foundation, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, as a grants officer. It's a great job--we give approximately $10 million in grants in our region every year to promote better health of our area residents. I played drums in the Munich stage band with George Morrison, and have kept that up ever since--I still play in big bands and jazz combos to this day, and play in festivals, concerts and other events.
