Ike's Story

Life lNot taking the "day to day" thing too serious. Having fun and enjoying life. Kel (the former Ms. Kelly B. Brauer) and I have been married this time for over 20 years. She is my best friend and the love of my life. We have two son's, Christopher (23) who lives in N.Richland Hills and Cody (18) who still lives with us. We've been away from Texas for the last 20+ years bouncing around the globe -- we spent eight years in Iwakuni, Japan which is 40 Kilometers south of Hiroshima. I've tried to keep in touch with old friends but have only been able to maintain contact with Tom Benton, Randy Beck and most recently David Conley. The last time we were in Texas for a visit was a few years ago and we went to Randy's for dinner and he told us all about the last reunion. Wish I could have made it, was out looking for Osama, but it sounds like everyone had a good time. Kel and I are into the dog sport of Schutzhund and belong to Jacksonville Schutzhund Club here in NC. It's a great sport and our Rotti "Ditto" loves it. Kel is the handler/trainer and I'm learning to be a helper/trainer (the one who gets bit). We also manage the club's website. School school memories... Craziest - when kids would go mudding in front of the school during lunch and roll their trucks. Cruising cooper street and Randell Mill Park. Thanks Steve fo...Expand for more
r driving (corn nuts and 7-up). Sandy's Cut Rate Liquor, even Richard Payne could buy beer. Party spots - Behind Lyle Lewis's house, Miller Creek, the water tower, and "Tom Land" the new housing development that stalled and provided us a place to poor out cases and cases of beer, Malibu Speedway and Putt Putt. College Did it the hard way. TCJC, then a few semesters at NTSU and finally finished up with the University of Maryland, Far East Division with a BA. Oh yea, the Far East Division is in mainland Japan. Workplace My job is great, I get to deploy/travel to far off exotic places, meet interesting people and ....... Military I enlisted in the Marine Corps a few years after we graduated. I only planned on doing four years but I kept getting promoted, and to my suprise, I was having fun. Now I've been in for over 20 years, still having fun, and Kel wants me to stay in a little longer to see if I can get promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. I started as a Private (E-1) and worked my way up to Staff Sergeant (E-6), I was selected for Warrant Officer and made Chief Warrant Officer-3 when I was selected for Captain. I'm currently a Major stationed with the Marine Special Operations Command in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. I'm finally to the point where I can quit if/when its not fun anymore but then I'll have to get a real job.
