Irene's Story
I was a shy awkward skinny high school student - on the debate team and a senior Girl Scout - graduated in 3 years and went to UC Santa Cruz ,,, where I â¦. um⦠transformed!
Transfered to UCLA and graduated in psychology.
Became a VISTA Volunteer on a quest to Save the World p- and went to Iowa and Nebraska to be at a place where it snowed in the winter.
After 2 years. left to hitchhike all over Europe on a journey to find The Meaning of Life - found my Dutch husband on the south Coast of Crete. and some meaning along the way.
Came back to California to set...Expand for more
up programs with fieldworker families - and then left to go back to the Netherlands and get married. Came back with Ed and we've been living here in Santa Cruz - which was our compromise between Death Valley and Amsterdam - for 40 years!
Raised two great kids, organized community programs and started Kidpower in 1989. We are celebrating 25 years of teaching child protection education and personal safety skills for all ages and abilities.
Am more confident, less shy, still awkward, less skinny, and more old than I was in high school - otherwise am about the same.
