Irene's Story
I dated Dan Meeks in high school.. We married a year after graduation. He was in the Air Force at the time and we headed for South Carolina where he was stationed. Then came the dreaded orders, Viet Nam. We were too young to weather the separation that sent him to Viet Nam and divorced. Out of that marriage came a beautiful baby girl who is now 44 years old and I am so proud of her. After our divorce I married Jim Wallace, I lived most of the next forty years in Florida due to Jim taking a job with Walt Disney World. He was very successful there. I had four more children. ldn't be more proud of all of them. Jim and I are now divorced and I decided I wanted to come back to Columbus. It feels more like home here. I work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate , Guardian at Litem for abused and neglected children with Franklin County Court System. It is work that makes you feel like you are making a difference in the world. No other joy can top the feeling of helping a child who is in a bad situation from no fault of theirs. Oh... and once again I am with Dan. Dan is the Executive Director for the USO of Central and Southern Ohio and I volunteer and work with him.We have a nice life together. I am blessed with him and my family.
