Irene Lopez's Story
A year after graduating fom high school, I married a '72 graduate of Santa Clara High school. His last name was Lopez, so I never had to change my name. He was co-capt of their football team, so you can just imagine how I had to listen to the stories of how they beat Venura and the most memorable game for my husband was playing at Larabee when the Ventura hillside was on fire.
After living 5 years in Oxnard, I returned to Ventura to raise our three children. I can't think of a better place to raise kids. All my childen attended Blanche Reynolds, Cabrillo and VHS. My youngest son graduated from UC Davis in 2009.
My husband passed away suddenly in 2002 at the young age of 49. I have five beautiful grandchildren to love and spoil for both of us...

years and I'm looking forward to retiring in about 3 years. I am very fortunate in that I have kept in contact with many of my close friends from high school. We get together frequently for dinner or to go to Chumash.
My weekends and weeknights are spent following my grandkids games (ie: football, baseball, basketball). When I'm not at the ballpark, I enjoy going to the movies or just relaxing at home with my puppy.
In 2011 I met the man who would become my husband. In 2012, I retired from the Superior Court and in 2013 I married Michael after being a widow for 11 years. I had forgotten how wonderful it was to have someone special to share your life with. All I can say is love comes when you least expect it! I have been blessed and now have someone to share my years in retirement with. Life is good!
