Iris Jacobs's Story
Life
Hi everyone from LA High! I became a high school Spanish teacher mainly because I had such fond memories of my high school days. I'm serious, I really enjoyed all aspects of school: the academics, social life, sports, faculty, and my many friends of diverse ethnic and socio-econmic backgrounds. The values I learned at LA High I tried to instill in my own three sons and the many students I've taught throughout the years. My highest honors professionally include being elected the district's Teacher of the Year in 1999, and receiving a Fulbright Scholar Teacher Exchange Award. The latter gave me the opportunity to teach in Mexico City for a semester in 1998.
I'm happily divorced and live in Northern California right across the Golden Gate Bridge in infamous Marin County. My three sons are grown up and became professionals in their own right. Two are dentists and one is an attorney. Two are married so far, and I have four grandchildren now with another one who make his/her debut in the Fall...Expand for more
of 2009. I am truly blessed. I probably will have even more precious little people in my life as the years go on.
Somehow I got involved in physical fitness( after the 70's experience wore off ) and teach adult ( co-ed of course) weight-training and fitness classes part time. I tried to retire from regular daytime teaching two years ago.... but I got an offer I couldn't refuse this year to come back to teach one section: a fourth year Honors Spanish class! UPDATE: I am now teaching Spanish part time at an alternative public high school that is part of the Tamalpais District. I am also tutoring individual students. It's a blast but I need to get back to a schedule that allows me to travel without having to check a school calendar. I'm sure you can relate! I love my life and feel very lucky that I've gotten through the rough spots of adulthood relatively unscathed. I think of so many people from the old days and would love to hear from you and how everything is going for you. Please contact me!
