Isaac's Story
Life
BSEE - Georgia Tech
MSEE - Stanford University
Now in Naperville, IL with Alcatel-Lucent Tech.
Rich -no, Blessed - yes!! But I have been blessed with a good career in electrical engineering/computer software development at ATT Bell Labs and now Lucent Technologies. After 5 years at Ga. Tech (co-oped at Savannah River Plant in Aiken & with Dupont in Delaware)- I moved to Naperville, Il. to join ATT Bell Labs. Before going off to Stanford to get my MSEE, I met my wife of almost 21 years - Meriel Jones (now Champagne of course :-).Blessed with marriage of 21 years to Meriel and lovely family of 3 children(Reggie,Chris, Paula).
Currently employed as Distinguised Member of Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies (formerly ATT Bell Labs) doing Software development for Optical Networks. Hobbies: Watching the kids grow up, lots of soccer games and other activities, fairly active in my church (trustee, Sunday School teacher, etc.), working with computers, reading. I went to Europe recently (Netherlands) and would love to take the family one day!! One child in college at Penn State University and two more getting ready to make their next steps.
School
Today - Meriel of course. Back in the day ... probably Gayle C. (although I doubt she realized it started in 9th grade). Teachers that inspired me: Mrs. Tuomey (1st grade!!), Mrs. Walker (4th grade) - they saw my potential. Mr. Grady Locklear (high school) - he challenged me in English. Math & science teac...Expand for more
hers.
College
Best roommate - the Mob (William Mobley) - good friend. Cafeteria food - food at Ga. Tech was terrible, guess that's how I first started to cook. All nighters were mostly spent at the library. We even had our own table just outside the copier on 3rd floor, although I sometimes found a quiet spot on the 4th floor. Would drop by during the day and just about spend the night there from about 6 PM to midnight. Stanford was a bit different ... lot's of sunshine. Used to even ride a bike to school from my apartment. Tough school - had to spend lots of hours studying.
Workplace
Had some jobs in high school ... making pizza, selling clothes, making hamburgers at Dairy Queen ... definitely made me want to go to college. Summer jobs during college - co-op at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, S.C. and one summer at E.I.Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware. 1st real job & still my current gig - ATT Bell Labs and now Alcatel- Lucent Technologies in Naperville, IL. It's been a blessing. Moved from hardware design to resident software/signal processing work in Digital Service Circuits (5ESS), various projects that flamed out (Switched Digital Video, Optical Networks) ... now in Mobility (software for UMTS wireless networks). Work life has been a blessing. Only regret is not taking some risks and pursuing more business avenues (MBA, trying some business ventures, investigating finance ... would have made a wonderful dual major in economics & engineering).
