James Israel:

CLASS OF 1978
Ypsilanti, MI

James's Story

I am the long haired guy that would ware a blue jean jacket ,t shirt, blue jeans and cowboy boots one day, and a leisure suit the next. All was with a red or blue bandanna . I remember looking at the bank clock across the street from Ypsi High in the winter saying -14 deg. and smoking cigs, freezing in the cold. I remember skipping 1rst hour and walking to the Best gas station to buy cigs for 45 cents a pack, and playing pinball at Simbads Pinball Palace instead of going to class, but I was not the only one there skipping. I thought Kim Clarke was the best looking girl in school. I liked Mr Beudette as a person and thought he was fair. Even though he caught me and Kim crossing the street and made us go back to the school... I never got the chance to skip school with Kim because of that. ( bum rap) I still can here him hollering out the window of his Benz-- GET YOUR BUTT BACK IN THAT SCHOOL. HA HA! I was good at Art and got A's in that class, and I liked Science, and got B,s in that one, but didn't like school in general, I didn't like the drama that was there. After leaving school I worked on the line at Ford Motor Co. In Milan Mich. for a short time, but being tied to a press is not my cup of tea, so I went to another Factory and ran a lathe for less money, but at least I could use my math skills there, and it made the time I was there bearable. When all the jobs started to go to Mexico and Chi...Expand for more
na, and All the people that worked the factory jobs started to go to Texas, I resisted for a few years. Then I finely got sucked into that vacuum. I loved Texas but wasn't there long. Started partying with some Vietnam Vets and woke up in Florida. Ha Ha! Worked Construction there for a while and lived there 3 different times, but I was raised in the snow country, and that always brought me back to Mich. I have all ways liked music since I was a little kid, and am a accomplished musician. I have played all over the Untied States in all kinds of different venues. I never got married, but have had a couple long term relationships that lasted years.[ Maybe if Beudette hadn't Seen us that day things would have been different. Ha Ha!] Kim probably doesn't even remember that day or me for that matter. But those are my memories, and they make me smile, and take me back to a time of youth and uncertainty. I went back to College in the 90's, and started doing Research and Development in the Automotive Industry, but like life itself that was temporary. After 9 -11 I decided to move out of Michigan and back to the roots of my family in Appalachia where i have been working in the Music Industry. I would like to return home to Michigan someday. Like they say in the movies" There's no place like home", and in Michigan, its the Woods and the lakes, and the wildlife that keep calling my name.
