College is a Must- "We must do what We Need to do so, We can all do what We Want to do." I Love You "and "Amen" flow liberally in our conversations creating a new Generational Cipher. Our family's structure- a Beautiful Blend of Cultures and Traditions; Never a dull moment exists when DABS & CDMOKAMA are together, which is never often enough, since we are living in various Regions of the U.S.
We believe in" trying something new", good old home training, with practice and exposure to a variety of social graces. Courtesy and Respect is a "given". Natural smiles, since my Daughter may call out "Cheese," are as natural as saying, "Hi". Cameras are an accessory we use on a regular basis. Upside down smiles don't stand a chance in our family...
One of us is always available to the others. Fact: we accomplish so much more and enjoy our days if the smiles are frequent and there is family support, es...Expand for more
pecially now in this age of technology and "doing your own thing"...
Our favorite Family Movie, "Crooklyn" (Spike Lee), favorite Family song-anthem "Fabulous" by Jaheim.
There always been a wealth of knowledge in West Oakland. My roots and memories remain although "eminent domain" has toppled many of the family homes including ours. Many classmates of my youth may not be with us now but, they remain alive in my memories.
Baby Boomers definitely experienced the "Good Old Days" We remain almost invincible since we "Lived"... as the entire Universe expanded and "victory" was a common-day experience. The World invited us to take part in anything and everything...the choice was ours. We were fortified by our Teachers and Instructors. Life was as certain as a+b=c . Families knew families as neighbors. We referred to adults always with a Mrs. Miss or Mr. Children did not call adults by their first names, as if we were peers, even if they said we could. My family has been raised, keeping some traditions in tact and I must admit, it wasn't that hard to do. Even though, as teenagers, we were either" prisoners" or "slaves", since our parents were the "gatekeepers". We couldn't always go where we wanted...and always had too much work to do...Reality check...We didn't have a clue. I can laugh at this now. Keeping my Parent's rules and regulations, in retrospect, saved me from many risky situations and kept me from becoming too out-of-control. Guess what? I repeated some of the same with my (2)Sons and (1) Daughter and I must admit and they are fantastic people that I am so proud of. So, Thanks Mom and Dad. My Grandmother used to say that "God takes care of Children and Fools." She was right. We are always someone's children(no matter our age) and we all do foolish things (at one time or another).
My perspective changed as parenthood expanded. Some rules should remain "Evergreen" in the midst of changes and diversity.
Even though I am open to continued adventures, I am happy with my life and the wellspring that I call, "Family." I thank GOD repeatedly for so much but, especially my children and grandchildren
Round Two: Grand-Parenting has begun. The ability to "bob" and "weave"(figuratively speaking) comes in handy. I was born to "navigate" first.....commonly referred to as "scouting". I am a nomad by nature so, we camped out a lot in Southern CA. I am very comfortable establishing "new" adventure trails and explorations, if only for the future. I pass on the possibilities(baton) with great joy to the "six footers" who call me Nana, with the confidence of one who has a "bucket list" of only a few experiences, unfulfilled. I can add more after my "horse ride" on a beach, preferably in Santa Barbara. Amen ! Looks like "that ride" may be more common in Jamaica !!! That'll Work !!!
