Jacalyn's Story
After graduating from St Francis, I attended RCC for 2 years, married Bill Burns in 9/72, & transferred to Cal Poly Pomona. I got my degree in accounting in August 1974. i passed the CPA exam in 1979.I worked for Deloite Touche (then a Big 8, now part of the Big 3 national CPA firms) until September 1977, when i divorced Bill and moved to Honolulu, Hi. I moved back and settled in Chino (where I had a house with Bill) and started my own CPA firm in April 1978 in Riverside with my then husband to be, Russell Anderson. We married in October 1978 and had 2 sons, Derek (10/20/80) and Kyle (4/8/87). We divorced in 1994 and i remarried Bill in 1994. I continued to run and own the CPA practice and Russ left the practice after we divorced. I am still running my own CPA firm, but hope to sell and semi-retire this year and stay on as a consultant (work when I want). Bill and I plan to live part of the year in Kona, Hawaii, where we have a vacation rental condo we own. I plan to start another CPA practice in Kona as Bill continues working as a fishing boat captain (we may buy a sport fishing business/boat there, but that is only on a wish list now). consulting, web site business, which is complementary to my business and clients. We refer clients to each other! My youngest son, Kyle is still in school and will be transferring to Cal State San Bernardino in the fall. His major is accounting--so maybe i should wait and not sell so he can become a junior partner. Derek has a serious girlfriend, but no engagement, yet. Kyle is playing it safe until he graduates. I can't believe I am saying this, but I am ready for grandkids, but not before my boys are ready, too!
We have lived in Moreno Valley in the same home we bought in 1986, but hope to sell when the market ever gets better. We don't need such a large house and property to take care of anymore--we want to be more flexible to travel and to leave for Kona up to 6 months a year.
My parents moved from Riverside to Hemet in 1990, then to Prescott Valley, AZ in 2006. My dad passed away in November 2006. Both of my brothers, Gary (55) and Dave (48) have moved to Arizona, leaving me in Ca. I don't plan to live in AZ--too hot and dry and cold in the winter! I want to live where it is comfortable warm all year long (Hawaii).
It would be nice to hear from my former classmates and see some of you who are still in the So Cal area.
