Jack's Story

EASTGLEN: My High School memories are so precious - all the great friends I made, winning the Senior Football Championship (blocking for Wayne Thirwell and Bill Woywitka, opening holes in the line for Ken Zigaty, tackling [destroying] those "bad guys" from St Mary's) attending the "sock-hops" (those were always SPECIAL), watching some FANTASTIC Year Plays, having Brian Yerxa as a best friend (by the way he's in Kelowna and still a best friend), dating Shirley Anderl, dating Donna Warner (both Princesses), detention hall (I seemed to be in there a lot!!) etc etc etc. My biggest disappointment was having to transfer to Ross Shep half way through grade 12 and not graduating with all my friends. (but Ross Shep turned out GREAT!! too) Where am I now? What am I doing? I am now just a simple, hard-working guy. Trying to stay active (so I won't die of a heart attack) Have been single for the past 28 years after being the single parent of two beautiful daughters (my oldest is in the main profile photo with me) I still live in Edmonton. . . . SO MANY MEMORIES!! . . . LOVED attending Eastglen's 50th Homecoming four years ago, and seeing some old friends and teachers. WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?? It feels like yesterday I was walking to school, dreaming big dreams, freezing my butt (and frequently being late!!) OH WELL!! (I have a coffee cup that an old Eastglen friend gave to me that says "How the hell did I get this old?") But the good news is I still feel like a teenager, with dreams yet to fulfill. May we all meet again!! ROSS SHEP: What can I...Expand for more
say?? Shep was an experience! And it was great! (even though Jim McLaughlan nicknamed me "Joe Newboy", then later changed that to "Joe Beercan" - guess he saw me once at Stardust a little "under the weather" as you might say. REMEMBER STARDUST??) Anyway the nickname stayed for a long time!! THANKS JIM!!! (I'll get you!) Wish I could see all my old friends again!! LETHBRIDGE COLLEGIATE: When I didn't pass grade 12, my father gently suggested I "leave home" and "grow up" (yeah! he kicked me out!) , so I caught a bus to Lethbridge (I knew a couple of kids there from a YMCA youth conference), found a boarding house, got a job, and applied to the closest High School - luckily for me that was LCI. If you remember me, I was the new guy in school, kind of quiet, a bit of a loner (at first anyway) with no parents around to have to ask if I could do things - just me. Alone. Attending L.C.I. was a very different experience for me - living in a boarding house (signing my own report cards and absentee notes - always had trouble with those!!) but I met so many new friends. Had to work two jobs to pay my room & board, but I found time to play football and basketball and made a lot of friends from that. Am trying to remember the name of the guy who had his own MGB!! (THAT WAS SOMETHING BACK THEN!!) If anyone can help me out, email me (or post a note) I do have some special memories from my time in Lethbridge. Hope all of you (who read this) are well, happy, AND RICH!! (with memories if not with money!) Would like to see you all again some day!! Jack.
