Jack's Story

Life March 15, 2016. Gee where do you start? First, let me apologize to the folks from Paschal H.S. If they clicked my picture wondering who this guy is they are outa luck. Karol Bowen (Blakney) graduated in '74 and graduated from TCU. She taught for 31 years before retiring from Arlington ISD. We've been married for some 32 years. We have two grown sons (Blake and Jeff) and a grandson (Houston). Karol has gone into substitute teaching for Birdville ISD. I retired from teaching in Birdville two years ago. Frankly, I couldn't stand to just walk away so now I head up the Watch Dogs program at West Birdville and mentor about 8 students. While Karol teaches I'm in charge of keeping the home fires burning (laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc, etc). Oh, I still ride the "Iron Mistress" with the Patriot Guard, and Bikers for Christ Motorcycle Ministry and volunteer at the Union Gospel Mission where we do weekly Bible studies (Alpha). Karol and I have two Rottweilers (Tin Man and Dorothy) that have grown with us; both are at my feet now. Wow, I can't believe it has been almost 50 years since we graduated from SFA! When I look back at the last 50 years, I see teachers faces that never grew old and classmates from SFA, Allen Academy, and North Texas that never aged. I remember great teachers at all three and it would take the rest of the space I have to list them all. My TEKE and APO fraters and brothers from NTSU will always have a special place in my heart. demy go. They say honest confession is good for the soul; so here goes. In '69 about three weeks before military review the old tank exploded one night in a brilliant fireball. I won't name names, but it took 5 gallons of gas and a Molotov Cocktail to set it off. The only ones that were hurt was us when we ran into thorn bushes trying to get away. Anyway, there are the old memories but new ones have taken their place in my life and I thank my Lord and Savior that he has kept me around this long. Karol and I have been blessed beyond measure and we enjoy each other more and more every day. Life since my school days has been an adventure filled with highs and lows just like everyone else, but the one thing that has guided me for many years is my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I'm not famous, wealthy, have any titles, won any awards, or get much publicity. The reward that I have is that I've been a great father (according to Jeff and Blake), a fantastic husband (according to Karol), and that I try to be a servant to others. You won't find me on Facebook or Twitter and I got Classmates when it was free and I guess I've been too cheap to pay 30 bucks to view who has been "checking me out" or "remembering me", so I finally updated my story after about 10 years. Maybe I'll pay up one of these days. Until then you can find us in the phone book, leave a message if we don't pick up and we'll call you back. Karol and I leave our best wishes to all and may our Heavenly Father richly bless you all.
