Jack's Story
Since I left Greensboro in 1964, in the words of 'Ricky Nelson' I have been a travelling man. The Military footed the bill for a good portion of the places that I have been over the last 47 years. I have seen most of the 50 States several times and traveled Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and Carribbean with gusto. I married one of my high school sweethearts December 1965 and sired two children (girl and boy), but divorced after 7 years. All total I had four children, but one passed away a few years ago.
I joined the Air Force in 1965 and retired in 1986 (miss the free travelling, but no regrets). I decided to try my hand at college and found that I was a very good student and really enjoyed the challenge of competing with the younger folks. My intention was to become a Juvenile lawyer, but my mother passed in 1990 and to be honest I became lost for almost two years, but I went back to school and...Expand for more
graduated in 1992 with a degree in Sociology with an emphsis on law and society. I worked as a Youth Authority Probation Officer for almost 18 month, but became interest in working with young black male who had not made the criminal system. I became the Dean of Student at a school for young male sex offenders which was exciting, challenging, and very rewarding for quite some time. However, I was offered the opportunity to work with entire families and became a social worker for Sacramento County, California. I am retiring on October 1, 2011, but I am happy.
What will I do now? Of course I plan to travel some more especially to Ghana, West Africa early in 2012 to visit my sister and check out her new digs, and any other interesting nearby places. I have only one goal for the rest of my breathing time and that is to contact as many of the people that I grew up with which will make me very happy.
